"It is not silver"

Went into a local bank to ask for halves
They had none, I saw what looked like a silver dime in teller's tray.
"Can I have that dime, it looks interesting," I asked.
"Okay, but it is not silver, just bleached white," answers the teller.
"I'll take it"

It is a 1956 D FDR dime, worn, but VG Cond. Definately silver!

How do you work at a bank, and not know anything about American money?

Was just a lame attempt to get you to say, Oh ok. So they could go home and add "one more to their pile". :laughing7:

I had a teller say that about a 1963-D Franklin in her tray. Of course I still took it. :)

Some people just don't know anything about coins I'm sure. Alot of these young tellers probably could care less about this stuff. I have dumped a few times at one bank and never really gotten any question as to what I'm doing with all these coins. I only deal in $50 increments, but to do it often would definitely be noticed.

"it is not silver, just bleached white"

that means the teller actually examined the coin and came to that brillant conclusion.

Maybe when I'm checking for half dollars I should start asking tellers if they have any "bleached white" coins I can buy also.

Good eyes btw - I can't usually see their coin trays well enough other than to notice if they might have any half dollars.

Could you please clone that teller?

I'll order about 200 clones to be planted in my banks. That should do it.

That rates right up there with "Dimes?, there are silver dimes too?"

Keep on Rollin' !

Re: "It is not silver"

One of my fav tellers called the other day, "I've been holding $90 in halves for you. Would you like them?"
I rushed there after work, picked up the halves and she says, "I think I have a silver dime here." I saw more white edges in her tray, and she proceeded to pick out 3 silvers, and we exchanged $ at face.
The halves didn't give a single keeper.
May have been a ploy for her to get rid of those 50 cent pieces, but she did reward me.
