Detector(s) used
White's - DFX,Prizm V, Spectra V3
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
About 35 years ago, I used to detect with an old White's Coinmaster Supreme. Not too long, as the arm would give out from the weight after about a half hour. So I put it away, went into the service, got out, got married and raised a family. In May 2005, I decided to give the hobby another try. I purchased a White's Prizm V, and the difference between the old and the new is like night and day.

I don't get out of the city much, and all of my mding has either been city parks or school yards. Still, I think that I have done rather well in less than two years.

Picture #1 represents my breaking of the 5000 coin level. I never thought that I would get that far this fast. The coin totals are as follows:
Pennies: Indian Heads - 1 (1892, and my oldest coin)
Wheat Backs - 21
Memorial - 3,166
Nickles: 221
Dimes: 934
Quarters: 681
Halves: 3 (All J.F.K.'s with one Bicentennial)
Dollars: 5 (2 Susan B. Anthony's & 3 Sac's)

For a total value of $327.00 even

I'm sorry to say, that I have not found any silver coins, and was really surprised to find the Indian Head, since it was in a park that gets hit very regularly.

I have found 16 silver rings, 3 gold rings, along with a few pieces of silver jewelry.

What a great hobby. HH all...

Nice hunting, really enjoy seeing big piles of rings like that. The silver coins are out there you just have to know where to look. A lot of the silver has been cleaned out of the parks. It is still in the old neighborhoods though. Go drive around and look for boarded up houses or keep a sharp eye out for any houses that are being torn down or lots where the house has been torn down. Also anywhere they are doing work on sidewalks is a good spot to hunt. Try and hit the ghetto real early in the morning, the demos and sidewalks are best to hit in the evenings and on the weekends,HH...Shoot

excellent finds ! looks like your doing great ;)

You are doing very well congrats on the nice gold rings, & good luck to you in the future. ;D

Nice finds !!!!!!!!!!! the parks around here have been worked over pretty good but every now and then I'll run accross something old, I've been working a 50 acre wildlife perserve in the city here and there's some old stuff there and the nice thing about it is it has had many people through it for many years. The only other person I've seen detecting out there is my brother. Finding the old trails has been most productive there.

Great story...usually when I am going out to hunt...I always come on treasurenet and these type stories get me fired up! I am taking a few off again...sore arms this time! :D But thanks for sharing your story and finds with us! 8) :)

To explain a little on the bags in the penny tub. The bag at the back of the tub contains clad pennies. The bag laying on top of it contains mostly clad, but a few coppers, but all are in such bad shape that they wouldn't go thru a bank's coin counter, and will have to be hand counted. The other pennies laying loose in the tub are copper pennies. I just seperate them when I clean them. Easier than doing a 1000 of them later.
