I found a few things yesterday. This plate was the best one of them. Paid $3 for it. Yeah, at first glance it doesn't look like much, which is probably why the "professional" estate sale specialist didn't realize it was real. Tsk, tsk, tsk, it always pays to look closely at something. Here it is-

and here is the engraving which includes the Capitoline wolf with the suckling Romulus and Remus and the words "A RICORDO DEGLI ADDETTI AGRICOLI DI ROMA 1966" which translates to "IN REMEMBRANCE OF THE FARMERS OF ROME" or something close to that.

A very ugly and dirty topped plate revealed this on the underside-

with this label-

Then I looked a little closer and found this on the rim-

It's only 800 silver but it weighs an impressive 15.6 ounces. Any help on the makers mark would be appreciated.

I'll post another pic of the front when I clean it up some.

Wowee. That is a honker. Congrats and good eyes. Italian silver marks I've come across are usually by province / city.

The numbers/letters inside the lozenge indicate the silversmith (numbers on left) and the province (letters on right) that they are registered with. I have a site that tells this information (in Italian) unfortunately discontinued numbers by closed manufacturers are not included. IL PORTALE DELL'OREFICERIA E DELLA GIOIELLERIA MADE IN ITALY The mark is a little worn but to me it reads 30 (pretty sure) and PD or PO (not so sure). If it is 30PD then I have it id'd, if it's anything else then I don't know.

I wiped the front off a little bit. Man that thing is filthy. I did manage to get the big spots off of it. At least it's starting to look like real silver now. LOL.
