Item shipped at a lower postage rate that what you paid for.

Contact them and tell them you want to be refunded the difference.

Are you concerned about the difference in the postage? I would contact the buyer about the difference. He should have the money and able to refund it to you. If not, open a case for the difference. It should be pretty much an open and shut case. If he is a jerk about it, hit him in the feedback.

Sorry to hear about this for you, but I bet it was a mistake on the seller's part.

Did it cause it to take alot longer to get to you ? Now that Ebay is ripping off sellers by charging a percentage of the shipping some people are trying to cover that by slightly raising their prices. What your seller did was wrong but I also suspect it was a mistake and I doubt we're talking about an amount that deserves ruining his feedback over it. People who are quick to play the "feedback card" when sellers have NO recourse to leave a negative against a bad buyer just encourage the stupid policies that are ruining Ebay. I realize the corporate bigwigs ONLY want to do business with big time retailers these days and could care less about the mom & pop sellers who gave them their start. This is why I'm ready to throw in the towel and I've been a member of Ebay since 1999. The original concept was based on mutual trust protected by mutual feedback. It kept EVERYONE honest. Now Ebay wants to be Amazon and it's all changed for the worse.

I'm not sure it was a mistake. Price-gouging on shipping has been common on eBay for years. I've been a sucker for that a couple times in the past, being quoted maybe fifteen dollars for shipping, and when it arrives the actual postage is perhaps three. I believe some sellers actually incorporate shipping overcharges into their business plan as an additional source of income.

I've seen that as well and it's part of the reason Ebay started doing the thing where they calculate the shipping for you. Buttt... it's often wrong. I guess I'm old school and don't feel the need to have someone else force me to be honest in my dealings. I always figure the shipping myself, use USPS Flat Rate whenever possible, and only charge actual cost. I'm a small time guy and can afford to do that. Some sellers are large volume sellers and PAY someone to do their packing and shipping and they buy their shipping supplies. Should they have to eat that cost ? If you're looking at an item the shipping cost is clearly shown. If you feel it's unreasonable don't bid. It really is that simple. If a "widget" is $20 and the shipping is $10 decide if $30 is a fair price to have the item IN YOUR HAND. If not pass.

Yeah, write and ask for the money back. There's a difference in paying a shipping charge you're ok with with and it arriving a little cheaper & a seller giving you the options, you paying more, and that person ignores your choice and does what they want to pocket the money. If a seller wants to grab a little extra, which I am completely ok with, they do it by either listing with a flat rate, or slightly higher options than the actual cost. That seller is doing it the wrong way and will continue to have problems.

Its called a handling charge. I have seen where the seller makes money on the shipping price and not the item as a practice. Ask nicely once then leave appropriate feedback.

what I read in the op the buyer up graded to a faster servive payed the extra fee and the seller took his money and still shipped it the slow way witch is wrong. the op needs to get his money back nif the seller does not give it back fast open a case against him.

You are right. That is not a handling charge. This is bordering on theft and is, at the least, unethical on the seller's part.

If someone offers alternative shipping methods and you pay extra for that service then you should expect it, bar none. Message the seller and tell him to refund the difference into your paypal account. It's quick and easy. If he doesn't do it then the ball is in your court.

I will contact the seller. They are fairly new so hopefully they just made a mistake or didn't know what they were doing.

Now that Ebay is ripping off sellers by charging a percentage of the shipping...
Sorry for the off-topic post but I couldn't let this pass without comment. In the beginning, ebay charged sellers a percentage of the sale price of the item. Shipping cost was not included in this fee calculation. Sellers very quickly figured out an easy way to minimize their ebay fees... charge little or nothing for their item but charge a HUGE amount for shipping. The folks at ebay aren't complete morons and they quickly figured out they were getting screwed by their own policy. Hence, the "final value" fee with "final value" being the sum of purchase price + shipping cost. You can't blame ebay for making this change. They would have been out of business very quickly otherwise so I take exception to the comment that ebay is "ripping off" sellers by doing this. The truth is, sellers were ripping off ebay with the grossly understated purchase/grossly overstated shipping cost strategy.

You didn't really buy that explanation did you? Ebay could have weeded out those auctions just like they do with any of their other prohibited listings.

If you paid for upgraded shipping, that is what you should get. If not, request a partial refund of shipping fees.

As to buyers hugely overcharging on shipping, as a potential buyer you had to report them for fee avoidence. There use to be 1000s and 1000s of sellers like this. So to avid the problem, Ebay dropped the hammer on everyone!

Quickly was years and years. Now ebay tells sellers they give them 20% off of shipping if they purchase shipping through them online. In reality they just don't take 20% of what the seller pays to the post office. So now they have tuned a turned a negative into a positive. They were just waiting until they could figure out a way to profit from it.

I think ebay should not charge for fees on flat rate boxes etc where rates do not change. Now on your part, if you paid extra for a faster service, it was probably a seller mistake. If it said priority on the listing and then he shipped it parcel select or something, let it go. That is not something to get mad about. If he charged you $10 shipping, and it cost $3, it shouldn't be a big deal either. I hope you get what I am saying here. When I make a purchase, I add the shipping fee together with the actual item fee and decide if I want to pay that for the item. I don't calculate shipping extra. If the item is $10 with $10 shipping. I decide if I want to pay $20 for it. If it costs the seller $3 to send it, it doesn't matter to me. Now again, if you paid extra for a faster service, that is on the seller. Good luck!

No the ebay folks are not morons they just figuered out another way to get money out of us and in the long run the end customer.

If I have an item that weighs 5 pounds 6 ounces I round up to 6 pounds and add a pound. I enter 7 lbs in the auction and also add $1.00 to $1.50 handling. cartons and packing weigh something and the rest is so I break even after the shipping is paid and ebay gets their cut.

What ebay should have done is ban sellers that charge $5 for a $40 item and then $25 to ship.

Exactly. However if they did do this, they would have to make sure on the item. If I am shipping a power steering box, shipping may be $80, but I may only be asking $40 for the box with the $80 shipping. To solve this issue, I normally just do $120 free shipping since the fees don't matter anymore if it is shipping or item.
