It's been a long wait, but it was worth it....

It's been a long time since I was able to get out and do what we all like to do. The last hunt I was able to make was the end of March, then had to go to North Carolina for brain tumor surgery on my son. Got out there, and the surgery was much more complicated than they thought it was going to be, so ended up cancelling the hunt I had arranged before I went out, and have been spending the last 4 weeks inside of hospitals and rehab centers. Well, today I took the afternoon off, and the wife took my spot at the hospital, and I went out to an old park that we have hit many times before.

Decided to take and use the DFX that I had purchased in March, and had only used for about an hour. You have to use 'em if you want to find something. I found out with my Prizm V, that the more you use your machine, the better you get with it. So off to the park I went. Decided to use it in some of the out-lying areas, where there isn't a lot of traffic, and finds will be few and far between. The first few holes I dug, the machine said they were tabs or nickels, and I just wanted to be sure that's what they would be.

About the 3rd hole, I get this strange reading, registered 44 on the machine, at 4". Meaning that it was either a ring or a pull tab. Dug it anyway. Got down about 6" and pulled out the plug, and there wasn't anything in it. Checked the hole, got a real strong reading at 6", so I went down about 8" and pulled out the plug, and still nothing. Now I'm getting a little giggly. I'm sure that I've found an old V nickel or an Indian head penny. Dug down to 9", and out popped the biggest ring that I have found. When it was laying in the hole, I about had a heart attack. Stones everywhere. Well, got it home and cleaned it up, and it's not gold or silver, but just plain old costume jewelry, but it is still quite a ring. I'm guessing from the '50's or '60's.

Only had about an hour and a half to hunt, but ended up with the ring and a little clad. Still happy that I got out. Hope you were able to get out to.

HH all.

Beautiful beautiful beautiful! I found one of my best rings in St Paul, Neb. I sure wish I knew how you take pictures where the background just seems to fade away. Anyway awsome ring.

I still can't believe that ring. It is one pretty piece. As for my son, he is doing just fine. He has spent the last couple of weeks in rehab, and is to be released tommorow. Will have to go to out patient rehab for a week or so, and then he will be done with that. They got all of the tumor, and did no damage to the brain. The problem came because the tumor was attached to the hypothalmus and left optic nerve. They were able to remove it without doing damage to either, but they moved them a little during surgery, and it messed up his short term memory. His long term is fine, but anything that he has done in the last 5 or 10 minutes, he can't remember. That's what we're working on. The doctor said that he should be about 100 percent in about 3 months. We are so thankful. Thanks for your kind words.

I don't know anything about taking pictures with a digital camera. I lay the item on a clean white piece of paper, take the picture, run it thru my Gimp program for sizing, and go from there. It just comes out that way. This has been a strange year for rings. This one is number 8 for me. 4 have been silver, and now 4 aren't. Doesn't matter, I like them all. Thanks for the comments.

So glad to hear they were able to remove it without doing damage. Hopefully the short term memory issues will improve soon. I sure will be praying for all of ya! 100% in 3 months sounds pretty awesome for what he has been through! Thanks for updating us! ~hugsnprayers~ Cyndi

Glad to hear your Little One is on the Mend...It's been said that doing something you enjoy is therapeutic. Maybe that time Hunting alleviated some of the stress or made you forget momentarily. I'm glad you got out. HH
