It's International Raccoon Day!

Yes indeed...the little varmints have their own day.

Happy International RACCOON Day! Celebrated every October 1st. A little girl in California loved them so much that she came up with a day to celebrate the night critters in 2002 to help people see the good side of raccoons. Originally to highlight the importance of raccoons in the ecosystem and to combat the negative stereotypes as Trash Pandas!

This pic is from July. It's these little ones first trip out grocery shopping with mom, and they stopped by the 'Coon Cafe for a snack. These are the first three little ones I saw this year. I'm guessing they are 10-12 weeks old.

That's awesome. On a hike in the foothills in early August one followed me for a couple of miles as we shared beef strips my grandmother had made. They are my favorite animal, thanks for sharing this, I had no idea about the date.

Very adaptive critters…..fun fact, did you know the mom has to lick the babies butts before they’ll poop?
