We found this bottle on a dig on saturday. I did some research and this is what I found:

Pre-pro, stoneware, 10½" tall quart, with beautifully detailed dark blue transfer: "Christian Moerlein Brewing Co. Cincinnati, O / Moerlein's Old Jug Lager / Krug Beer" c.1880; crazing - primarily on reverse

Hi iammetalcore

Wellcome to Tnet from the UK

Thats a good find and in great condition too.

HH Dave.

What's pre-pro, pre-Prohibition?

That's a great-looking beer jug. A fine item just to keep and display, but I'd think it had some monetary value, too.

I found them on the internet for sale for about $75

But, like most things, its only worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. So, I think I will just keep it.

I'm going to go back later this week and look for more.

Nice! Now if was only stuffed with coins ;D.

Really cool looking bottle!!! Great find!!!

Just some articles I found to add to your bottle and here's an advertisement I found in the paper.....:)

Found lots of auctions in the Ohio area where this bottle and a Moerlein Jug were collectibles in the 1970's....

Great find and Happy Hunting,
Annmarie

Ok...had to stop this morning, cause I had to be at work in 20 minutes (only a 4 min car ride)...so now that I am home, found some more info for your bottle.

Morelein's Beer.
Cincinnati, locally known as the "Paris of America" is a great place for beer, industry and music. Not the least interesting of its statistics pertain to the first of them. It is computed that thehome consumption of beer amounts to the considerable figure of half a million barrels, or over 1.500 million glasses of the usual size, and not foam-filled in the general saloon style. But besides this, there is an export of over two hundred thousand barrels. The most popular beer upon the market at present, which is not only meeting with great demand, but is becoming almost as common as water in the family, is the beer brewed by the well-known Christian Moerlein Brewing Company. The widespread popularity of their beer and its rapidly increasing reputation may be attributed to the fact that it is brewed from the choicest imported and domestic hop and malt, and being entirely free from adulterations. Their "National" Export having been awarded the first premiums at the Cincinnati Industrial Exposition of 1861, '82, '83, '84 and complimentary Gold Medal in 1883 and 1884. The Messers. Brewer & Harter of our city are the sole agents for Lima and vicinity, and always have a supply of their different brands on hand, namely "Regular Lager", "Klein-Schwechat-Vienna" (Wiener), "Bavarian-Double" (Doppell) and "National" Export.

This is what I love about this forum. Someone share an interesting find and others give it some history. Thanks for the info I love history.

Very Cool....I would hang on to it also. Yours is in great condition!

I enjoy old crocks and pottery like that! I really like that piece you found there. That is one good looking old bottle! I'd love to run across one of those. I would consider it a great keeper in my collection. I hope you run across a least a few more of them. That's a super cool find congratulations. You don't find nice stuff like that much unless they are in pieces.
I'd say an A+ 100 percent Keep on finding them.

JRich
