my brother has a BMW that watches your eyes and if it thinks you're not paying attention, it will actually find a spot and pull itself over. My son bought a Toyota that they insisted he activate some kind of system that constantly tracks you and monitors your driving biometrics. He didn't fall for it and never activated the system. I hate all this 'technology' they are forcing into vehicles now. I really miss when cars were simple to operate and maintain. Give me a'68 Mustang or '66 Chevelle any day over this new stuff.

I have heard that newer trucks have some sort of interface that prevents code readers from working and simple changing brake pads might require a visit to the shop to clear codes so the emergency brake will unlock. It’s strong armed robbery and if they want loyal customers, they better keep this stuff off of trucks.

My wife’s “new” car (2018 MB GLS450) will beep at you if your eyes aren’t looking forward for more than 2-3 seconds, and will also auto brake/slow down if it senses road cones. Scared the hell out of me the first time it took me from 65 down to 40 real quick. I thought something was wrong. Nope, just mercedes adding crap that 99.9% of us don’t need. My 2008 Silverado doesn’t have any of those “safety” features and I love it.

Yup, I smelled a rat with Allstate many years ago. Saw their ads about monitoring your driving so you get a safe driver discount. Baloney! They want to punish you for speeding or doing something else they consider to be unsafe driving. Makes it easy for them to find a reason to jack up your rates. Nothing worse than shady insurance companies.

Allstate has always been the worst one for auto insurance. When my father could no longer manage his affairs, I took over to help out. The first thing I noticed was how high his auto insurance was for his old Mercury Grand Marquis. When I checked his policy, they had him insured to the max. Some insane amount for each category, like $300,000 for an uninsured driver hitting him and so on. When I tried to change it to the state required minimum, they refused! Even though I had power of attorney, they wanted him to come in and discuss it with their sales agent. No way was I going to allow them to fast talk him into keeping the same policy. Fortunately, his policy was up for renewal in a few days, so I told them to do what we wanted or I was dumping them. They gave in at the last minute and let me change the policy. His auto insurance went from $2,200 a year to $700 a year! Scumballs...

Ahhhh ... the good hands people.

Back in the 70's I bought a old junker Toyota Corolla. $250. Dad added it to the family policy. Not much of hit.

Then I upgraded to a 3 year old Charger Special Edition with a 400 cu in 400 Hi-Po "HP" - factory dual exhaust and Carter thermoquad....

The policy about doubled for all cars and members. Dad was not pleased and decided it was time for me to go get my own policy. I did, not with Allstate and paid a lot less than the hit to add it to the family policy.

Keep in mind my dad was long time friends with the agent Aldo Valiani and had the house and other policies with him for decades.

So after I had my policy in hand he informed the Allstate office to adjust his policy back to just the parents and my siblings and I was covered on my own.

The new bill arrived and instead of refund, the family premium again increased. I saw dad open the mail when he got home from work and to say he was furious would be putting it politely. Dinner was ready but he called instead. Closed. So he called Aldo at home. Some sort of fumblebucking explanation was proffered about all the changes so often and the entire family now has access to the hot rod or whatever. Dad was an intellectual and man of reason.

After Aldo finished his lameness dad asked this: Aldo, suppose I sold all the cars and tore up my driver's license... how much would you want out of me for auto insurance then?

Then there was some mention about how long he had been using Allstate for everything without shopping around primarily because they were friends. "Send me a updated bill." SLAM !!

Took a martini before he was ready to eat.

The new premium notice arrived days later with a refund check and numbers back to pre hot rod levels.

The nerve of some people to try and take advantage of that situation.

My Insurance company tried to add a clause if I wanted my vehicle to submit my dailty driving to them. Check you renewaL POLICY. I have a spot on the interstate where there is a climb and my cruise control activates to a higher speed. Also i have s spot where the speed limit is 35 m p h and it down hill

I have a 2023 Ram truck and have no idea what half the stuff is. Has a touch screen that is way to big and takes your eyes off the road.It also has navigation and the one thing I do like is a voice shuts down my radio and yells Red Light camera ahead. Lol. It has alerts for everything open the hood and shake my head and remember the days I would pull and swap engines out. No idea what I am seeing now. I have had several Ford trucks but the price now on any truck is crazy.Hopefully this will be my last.

Yup, my TPMS idiot light has been on for over a year. Had to Google that one. That's the tire pressure monitor sensor. The only problem is it doesn't tell me which one is defective! Even worse, it's attached to the tire valve stem, so you have to dismount the tire to replace it. Not gonna happen! My local garage charges me $35 to mount a tire and the sensor is at least $20, so forget about it!

The car already has an idiot light to tell you if a tire is low, so why would I need a sensor to tell me the same thing? Money maker for auto mechanics, I guess...

The sensor is what activates the light when the air pressure is low so they're connected, it's the battery in the sensor that has died, they are usually only good for around 10+/- years, unfortunately you can't just replace the battery you have to replace the sensor, newer vehicles will tell you which sensor is activating the light but on older cars it's not so, a garage if they have the proper scanner can tell you which sensor/s it is.

Have you checked the air pressure in all the tires, even the spare if it's a full size tire, some vehicles have a sensor in the spare and some don't?

2008 Hyundai Elantra. Yes, I check the tire pressure weekly. Not losing air in any of them. My spare is one of those cheap donut type spares.
