It's Raining, So Here's Tuesday's Spin...

Well, I was gonna save up and post all week's schtuff worth of hunting in one on Friday, but it's raining again and suppose to rain all day tomorrow too so unless a small miracle comes along or the weatherman is wrong, this is my lowly post for the week. :-\ :D

This is one of the old spots that's hunted out...and yep...still is. :D I've only found early wheat pennies at this particular site and have hunted there a couple of times...trust me..the sights are much better than my finds, but I love this place! I could just imagine what it must have looked like back in the day.

There are wells and cisterns all over and ya have to be mindful of them....

I found my first stopper! :o :D :D :D Well..was excited when I first started digging it up. I thought it was going to be a neat key only to find it's a stopper....to something? :D The rest of the stuff was found on other sites next to this one..not exciting, but something...

Last stop was the cut-out where I found my first Barber. Found the neat little ring at 5 inches...doesn't look like much now, but bet the owner thought it was pretty back then. :) Make's ya wonder who's it was.

Ya'll keep posting that good stuff! Ya know yer my motivation! ;)

Great finds Nana. Really enjoyed the pictures, especially the ones with the bushes in them that had GREEN leaves on them. Haven't seen any of those in several months. Going to try and get out one day this weekend, but don't know if I will be able to dig anything or not. Ground is as solid as a rock. Keep posting for those of us that can't. WTG

Thanks for the pics Nana, that's a great looking site and some nice digs. Next to shotgun brass those old harmonica reeds must be one of the most common find in late 1800s early 1900s sites. Must be a IH around there some where.

The ring is cool and that stopper is the first I have seen of it's kind. ;D

Good luck after the rain.

Nana, Those are some interesting finds. I think the stopper is cool. Seems like everyone but me finds a harmonica reed. I bet my brother john37115 has found half a dozen, oh, but me. I would like to find one to help round out a little shadow box someday.

Thanks for sharing

Nana,
Now stopper that!! Lol! ;D ;D
Cool find. That's the first stopper I have ever seen that said stopper on it.
Ill be passing thru your area next week, going to go visit my daughter in Livingston.(taking the detector too)

Re: It's Raining, So Here's Tuesday's Spin...

Nice finds and awesome site! I have a miracle for you, it's called wet weather gear, LOL. Have you ever detected those walls? Could be a nice cache hidden away, I found a modern day Geo Cache in an old wall, I signed the book "found with metal detector" and put it back along with the only find there, a rusty nail, LOL. I wonder how deep those wells are and if you could somehow scrape the bottoms? HH, Mike

Nana, as all ways you found a cool spot and some cool finds!
I bet some one really loved that ring in the past.

Very cool spot. The area is half the fun, the finds make up the other half even if it's just odds and ends. I always have fun with my detector. Thanks for making me envy you oportunities ;). Good luck next time and please share all.

Thanks ya'll! :)

Rudy...most of the ruins at this site are from the mid to late 1800's.

I got Daffy's Gypsy! I didn't take any pics of them at the site, but here's a couple from the yard for ya! :)

TT....that's a great idea! Might have to look into that. No telling what's down there...wonder if Lisa's got a magnet? :D

Joe....She must be in school? Let me know what day you're passing through! :)

Mike...Wet weather gear...hmm...might have to try that one day! ;D And scanning the rock wall...I have a bit but it's very difficult on the old arm muscles...or lack there of! :D

Thanks again! Find somethin' good!!

Re: It's Raining, So Here's Tuesday's Spin...

I know what you mean Nana!! Last Monday, it was close to 70 here (Maryland), but rain. THEN.....snow/ice and last night, more snow and ice!! COME ON SPRING!!!! Enjoyed your pics!! :)

Re: It's Raining, So Here's Tuesday's Spin...

I can't believe all the green and flowers in your pictures. There is about 2 inches of ice in Southern Illinois. I can't wait for spring. Anyway nice finds and great pics. HH

Re: It's Raining, So Here's Tuesday's Spin...

Wow...those are some awesome finds..those open wells are a little dangerous. Really did love the way you presented that old ring...very cool.

Re: It's Raining, So Here's Tuesday's Spin...

Nana,
Thanks for the great pictures. Be careful out there. I'd hate to ruin one of my good dresses having to pull you out of one of those wells. And just think what that would do to my nails!!! Ohhhhhhhhh. :'(
Very cool looking stopper. Never seen one like it before.
Anything stamped inside of the ring?
We are getting spoiled with 65 degrees and sunny here tomorrow, so I'll need to pull out a nice sun dress to wear. ;)
