Yesterday;
We did 4.5 hrs on 3 different Roman Sites (Brooch Field, HW Field, 2 6s Field).
Went on Brooch field first to prove one of the edges. Spend 2.5 hrs (5 man hours) with nothing, our hardest hit this year, that stung. Moved to MW & got 5 Roman Coins but not much about other than one of my best Roman bronzes this year - one I need & in good condition.
Then moved to 2 6s where we got 9 Roman Coins.
As the oilseed rape had just been drilled it took out 4 of our Roman Sites from 1 farm out of the to do list.

Today;
In light of yesterday we had to do a re-think & decided to return the lower Roman Farmstead at the Track-Way area. Spent 6 hrs & found lots of Roman Coins & a surprise big hammered. For those of you that dig numbers this hit as a 03 on the Deus. But because I dig nearly everything, I could tell this iffy signal was not iron & I thought it was a deep Roman Coin! (I dig lots of --,00,0-10s, if they don't sound like nails) I think this big hammered was at about 10 inches on its side.

14 Roman Coins (Yesterday)
32 Roman Coins (Today)
Broken Tudor Button
Rose Farthing
2 Tudor Clothes fasteners
Roman Steelyard Weight
Roman Bracelet bit
Roman Pin
Roman mystery Military? Fitting (Hook)
Hammered Halfgroat of Charles I
Hammered Shilling of James I 1603-4 (My first):icon_thumright:

UPDATE;
Turns out one of the Roman Coins might be an unrecorded/unknown variant.
Cru'Dads thoughts to follow...
FURTHER UPDATE;
Well Cru'Dad was not far off to spot this Very Rare coin;
Turns out 1 of this type is published in a book we don't have but its the 1 in the British Museum(BM). The BM have spotted 1 other sale in France, so ours is the 3rd one known/recorded;
AE3 Crispus
Obverse:IVL CRISP-VS NOBIL C
Reverse: CAESARVM NOSTRORVM VOT Dot X
Mint: PLON crescent

Excellent hunt Cru,, 03 on the DEUS??,, That's crazy!
Thanks for sharing that information, I will definitely investigate one or two of those signals in the future. Doubt if it will be a Hammered Roman Coin. lol

I know, seems unbelievable but that's what it hit at. That's why I've always been against VDU/VDI's, they are unreliable on all machines. I glance at mine to make my guess of the item a closer match.
The point I'm hopefully getting across is, unless you dig nearly every number along with understands the mix of sounds you will never know what you left behind. All you know is the numbers you dug, not all the strange iffy things that are sometimes hard to explain but turn out to be one of your best finds.

Congratualtions on the super coin and relic recoveries! :notworthy:

Please keep us posted on the rare coin discovery!

NICE FINDS .

Yeap whenever you GPS a coin that's the 3rd known, your normally pretty sure you got the best Provenance over the over 2.

Just incredible!! Thanks for sharing. -Lisa & John
