I am an arm chair hunter/reader right now due to elbow pain derived from repetitive motion. ( swinging that damned weight back and forth ). So the Doctor said....... I love to beach and water hunt. I been to the Doctor twice now. Once to receive anti-inflamatory/pain pills, (Naproxen 500 MG and muscle relaxers), and another to have an ex-ray of my elbow and shoulder, (Right arm), still pending results, well.... anyway..
Do any of you experience the same? What are your remedies? How long til I may get back in the water without pain? I am frustrated
and my Excal battery has not been charged in about a 2 month period. Will this hurt my battery?

Hope this is the correct place to ask since I hunt beach & water.
Your comments and experience is greatly appreciated.

Skipper

PS....Sorry for all the compound questions....

The bungee cords and the surgical tubing are good ideas but they also sell a contraption (probably can find it at Kellyco on line) that takes the weight of the machine off your arm. I have tried switching arms back and forth but find that I just can't use the left one near as well so I end up switching back pretty quick. As for how long... the guys are right on the money about that. Good Luck.

Kellyco sells a harness that works wonders for taking the weight off your arm. I use one and I can hunt all day with no arm pain. I use an Excal and a custom waterproofed Sovereign GT. I have also used the harness on my Beach Hunter ID when I had it, not only does it take the weight off your arm, but it allows you to let go of the detector in the surf and it hangs right by your side when your trying to recover something......

I have a suggestion for you for the joint pain. Buy some "white" raisins, put them in a large jar, cover them with Gin and let the gin evaporate. After about 7 to 10 days start eating 8-12 of them a day. You may discover the joint pain is gone. I tried it and at the time I had bad heel spurs in both feet, with in a week the pain was gone. I had tried everything prior to that including inserts and nothing worked.

When I found my heel spurs had stop hurting I made some up for my mom who had very bad arthritis in her hands and elbows, with in 10 days her joints stop hurting her. My mom continued to take them till her death in October, and the only time her arthritis botherd her was when she forgot to take the raisins for a couple days in a row........It works on the inflamation......

I know it sounds like an old wives tale, but speaking from experience it works............

Common ailment for most of us I see. I have a brace I wear when my elbow is hurting. It really helps and it just adds a little pressure on my forearm muscles leading up to my elbow. It only botheres me if I haven't been out in a while. I guess my muscles and tendons get use to it if I go hunting a lot? Monty

Get a strait shaft and may want to go to the 8" coil as it is much better-lighter to swing. Relax slow down and just do what you can. Also I take Glucosimine supplement for may joints and it seems to help a good bit. Give it a try will take a couple of weeks taking it every day to help.
Hope you are back swinging again real soon.

Need to rest and Mount that weight on your body...not your arm..

I now live on Advil. ;D

All very good remedies and advice. I take Aleve now because my perscription ran out. Seems to help. I haven't heard back from the Doctor about my ex-ray and I haven't followed up either. (Too busy trying to make a buck). I need to look into the harness and support for my Excal. Maybe make something.

I can still feel the pain during regular movement after just a few months. Hope it ends soon. I need to get out again.

Skipper.

Tried that once back in my youthful single days.... liked to have killed myself eating a whole box of grapenuts. Did you know that grapenuts expand when they hit the stomach? :icon_scratch:

I think I'm going to try this. Do you cover the container or let open....seems to me one allows air to evaporate...right? OK then. Next Pay
day. What Gin should I buy? How much? What proof?

I think my surrounding tendons and muscles are involved as well. (Right elbow).

Thanks.

Not sure how to quote yet....Duh.... :icon_scratch:

Skipper,

Brand of Gin does not matter, I bought the cheap kind, as I was not going to drink it........Fill a container of raisins with it and if left out, cover it with a cheese cloth to keep bugs off of it, or place it in the fridge with a cover that has holes (what I did) and let the alcohol evaporate, there will still be a liquid in the bottom from the raisins but will contain no alcohol.

I know it worked on my heel spurs, from what I read in my research on heel spurs, it is the inflammation around the spur that causes the pain, not the spur. When I saw how well it worked on my heel spurs I talked my mom into trying it for her arthritis which was extremely bad. Even the pain killers the doctors gave here were not working for the pain, with in a week my mom noticed the pain was a lot less and it continued to lessen. She became pain free in 2 weeks, and the only time it really returned was when she stopped taking it. I explained to her it was not a cure for arthritis, and the pain would return if she stopped taking them. After that it returned only when she forgot to take it for a few days. She went from being in pain at least 5 days a week to no pain for weeks at a time. Until her death this past October she was no longer in pain from arthritis.

It seems to work on ailments with inflammation, no one can really explain why it works, but it may have something to do with the juniper berries that is used to flavor gin. All I know is it worked on my heel spurs when nothing else would, and it worked on my mom's arthritis which was very bad.............

OK children, listen up, I'm 58.5 years old and I have Detectors Elbow (a.k.a. Fisherman's Elbow) from time to time. I did the cortisone shot once, never, ever again. That hurt like a SOB, yeah the pain went away immediately for a week then it returned so much for the shot. A physical therapist showed me a technique that works and its been working for me for 25 years.
Which ever the offending joint is, for me its my right elbow. The PT told me to grasp my forearm like the first photo with a left hand C grip and clamp down as hard as you can while making a right fist. Photo 2: Rotate your grip clockwise and counter-clockwise (back & forth) and it'll hurt like Hell but keep doing it for about a minute. Now bend your wrist at a 90 degree angle, Photo 3 and repeat the exercise for one minute. Now open your fist and some of the elbow pain will have subsided. Continue to do this whenever you want and in a few weeks, the pain disappears. I have never worn elbow pads or those other things, I always forget them. Whenever my elbow starts bothering me, I do my exercise.
The PT told me it creates scar tissue over the muscle, there is a medical term for it but it cures the pain a lot better than with those lousy shots. Try it, after all its FREE!

I agree wholeheartedly with Jason. I got on Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplements several years ago because I couldn't walk the .2 miles from the house to the barn without ankle and hip pain. It took quite a while (about six weeks in my case) for the effects to become really noticeable, but what a world of difference! It is now about seven years later, I'm still taking the supplements, and I haven't had any sort of issue with ankle pain, and the hips only begin to hurt if I'm pushing it (walking rapidly). From less than 200 yds with pain in my late fifties to generally pain free at 64 regardless of walked distance, I highly recommend anyone with joint pain buy at lease a two month supply and take them all to see if they will solve your problem(I get the 1500/1200 and take 1 per day as a maintenance dose). Lots cheaper than even one doctor visit.

Best of luck!

Seems to be working...I'll keep you posted. Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!

Skipper, It will takes a few weeks of massaging that muscle but each time you do it, it gets a little better. I take that Glucosamine tablets when I remember. Swanson Vitamins sells a product called Flexiral or something like like. A co-worker uses it and he swears by it.
But that massage technique will always work for the elbow. Joint pain elsewhere calls for Ibuprofen. Good Luck, keep me posted on any improvement.
