What part of the country are you in? point id would be easier.

Looks like there is more than one profile looking area showing on the other piece. Whats it look like from the other side? and what is it made of?

I am in the Midwest... There looks to be some type of white inclusion where the "eye" is at? It looks to be flaked, but face profile looks to be ground? It just does not look natural to me......

Nice point material. The other rock is a piece of flint/chert fossilized.

Yep you got a point and some other pieces mixed in that show some work. Now on the "effigy" no its just a piece of flint like a big flake removed and its an accident how it looks like a face. Its one of those pieces that looks cool but isnt a artifact. We all pick those kinds up but after a few yrs you will look at it again and say I was rite. Maybe not now but in the future you will see. Thanks for posting your finds, rock

Just so you know I am not some dumba$$ kid, I have been picking these things up for about 40 years(I am 47)... And these all came from the same area.... There was a skull found in this area it was taken to a local college and dated at 14700BP..... so time of occupation of this site is Paleo to contact.. Have a good day!!!!!

And that is what is wrong with a few people on this site.... You think you know it all.... Just so you know.. I was a Anthropology/Archaeology Major in college...but I don't know it all.. and don't claim to.... Good Luck and Happy Hunting.....

What state are you in?
That would make it easier to help you with a proper I.D. on your point... you said Midwest.. the material looks a bit more like Ohio or even Texas.
You Majored in Archaeology? ..well you should be telling us.

I am in Missouri... I believe the majority of the artifacts that come from this area are Nebo Hill, and Hopewell..But as I said before I am not an expert.. I believe the majority of the worked material is imported from other areas... not sure... Mainly white chert around here... But again I maybe wrong.... I also believe the pumice was acquired thru trade..... Not native to this area that I know of.. Good luck and Happy hunting.. :o)

If you don't want opinions then don't ask for them...sometimes you are going to get those of the consenting variety.

I miss all the good stuff.::)::). If you had that education you would of already knew it wasnt a Effigy and wouldnt of even asked us. On your points yes by the flaking I would say they are old style. Your pictures arent the best they are very blurry. Didnt mean to hurt your feelings I just gave you a honest answer.

Well I took the "effigy" by a friend who holds a Phd and is a field Archy... He examined it under microscope... Just like I said the left side has been flaked, but the right side(face profile) has been ground.. not a "natural" flake... He classified it as a "Hopewellian Effigy" Thank you for your opinions....... Good Luck and Happy Hunting.......

OK. Nice to have all the professionals here Offering their knowledge.
You majored in archaeology.. and your friends with a Phd. And a professional in archaeology... stick around we should be able to learn alot from you.. thanks.

Just so you all know, I too have a Phd. (Post Hole Digger)

It looks like one of those rock stackers type of Effigys to me. Some of those people did go and get their licenses for archy stuff. They just dont follow the typical theories of everybody else.

not a effigy, they would do a immaculate job on it
