Shoot, I coulda told ya that- Never got close enough to see any buildings, but I did get close enough to see the fence before I was run off. Didn't appear on maps, but its there. By the way, if you ever find yourself in Rachel they got pretty good burgers near a place called the Ale-E-Inn. Can't remember the place, though. Its a pretty small town, easy to find the diner..... LOL.

I think I heard a story once- when Google first put the sat images up, the Gov or Military came after them. Google won, and now we have the high res images.

All stop in for an informal visit!

I would of thought that areas such as this would be available from google and such. I figured that you would not have any areail photos from area where aircraft are prohibited

Believe me when I say what you see in these types of photographs of Area 51, is not what is actually there. The art of camoflage has not yet reached it's zenith but I can most assuredly say that our Govt. Isn't in the habit of losing even to google or any other entity. They have been discreetly hiding what's at this and many other sites from arial surveilance since the 50s. 8)

The only thing that blocks your way into Area 51 is a guard shack that you would NEVER make it to.

you make a left turn down the dirt road where Steve Medlin's 'Black Mailbox" is (now it's been painted white because of the publicity). You head straight down the dirt road, and pass the turnoff to the Medlin Ranch, and keep driving until you get to the spot where there are several signs at the side of the road (one says at the bottom that "use of deadly force is authorized" "no photography" etc.).

Don't worry, they have motion detectors and vibration monitors placed all along the dirt road on the way in, so they know you are coming LOOOOOONG before you get to the sign. I suggest if you go, when you get to the sign, stop and look at the tops of all the ridgelines. You will undoubtedly see one of their White Jeep Cherokees (by their, I mean the Wackenhut Security Guys). They will sit and watch you with large binos.

Those aren't my pictures. I am still not unpacked yet, and am working from my laptop. When I get my desktop set up, I will post some of my pics from the area. I have been there many times. Neat place. Helluva ride through NOWHERE to get there.

If you spend any time near the boundary line, you will most likely get buzzed by a Black UH60 Helicopter. You can trust 100% that as long as you are in the vicinity of the boundary, someone is watching EVERYTHING you do.

Nothing to do with radiation. You are combining two different stories:

1. Since all the work done there is Above Top Secret, they can't have normal trash disposal. They have to destroy it on site. Much of the material they work with is exotic and highly toxic. They have large fire pits on the base, and occasionally have a trash burn. Fumes from these Trash Burns have done horrible things to the health of many of the Area 51 workers. Some of them and their surviving spouses (of the ones who have died), tried to sue the US Government. Their lawsuit was shot down due to National Security Reasons (that and the fact that all the government people stated that Area 51 did not officially exist).

2. There is a story that most of the base operations were moved to either the secret base at Dulce, NM, or another secret base in Utah. From what I have heard and seen in the not too distant past, Area 51 and Papoose Lake are still going strong. Oh yeah, the real reason for the supposed move was because of all the publicity that Area 51 has gotten over the last 15-20 years.

You are correct, I was confusing it with the time I we were out partying in the desert behind Nellis. We were politely told (at gunpoint) to leave the area. Stupid kids, we had a bonfire of pallets going maybe 200-300 yards from the gate!

BTW, there's a test bomb range back there, too. The pics of the signs brought that all back
