Just what I need

Heck yea be careful i blasted wasp nest off my roof and inside storage box with the pressure washer and I did not get hit once lol
Yea that’s a good way also… glad to read that you did good…but I also heard one hornet can sting several times and make one’s life miserable

Started mowing the grass and in a crabapple tree is a large hornet nest.I’m told to keep my distance as they supposedly remember if you mow to close they will make life miserable
Yes sir. I had one of these a few years back in a Leland cypress tree. Be safe around these buggers.

This was the one I had a few years back. It really is a work of art how they weave these nests, but admired from afar. Lol

Yes Sir Thanks again…
It’s over 300 ft. away from the house so something’s telling me to leave it alone

Yes it’s a beautiful work of art and like ARC mentioned it’s a Hells Piñata

If you spray it at night, while all the workers are inside and only a few guard bees outside the entrance hole, do not shine a light on them they will follow the light beam to you and not only are you done your stung! If they are not bothering you leave them alone they are beneficial creatures and will die after a good frost.

Wow’ Thank you for sharing..supposedly they eat some insects and thanks again for the advice.
I can see myself now going down there in the dark to spray with a flashlight and have them lite me up..

yup they will go to the light ,that's how the bucket trap works. just leave it , no one here will feel the pain you may bring upon yourself ,enough stings could kill a man. When I was a youngster I hit a nest with a brick and those hornets chased me all the way down the road. I'm old now and choose my battles wisely .

My luck it would burn and the wind would pick up and have the fire department here
My luck the wind would pick up suddenly IN MY DIRECTION.

But,.... the good side of this... the silver lining would be.......
At least the hornets would avoid going after the jumpin rolling dancing man ablaze with aqua palm.

As a funny aside

as a funny aside to this post, I remember when I was young, my cousin and I were fishing along the bayou. We saw a big hornet nest in a tree. He was the impulsive type, still is, and he decided to throw a coke bottle at it. I tell you the sky turned red, I got stung in the back at least 3 times before we were able to get away. He didn’t get stung at all.

Yes sir
Enough stings could kill a man and that’s probably true and I’m to far away from the nearest ER

Thanks for sharing that memory..
Also when I was young we used to play flash light tag after dark and I was lucky enough to hide on some kind of bees nest
They tore me up…

Don’t blame anyone who needs to rid themselves of a hornet nest but- Do they serve an important purpose ? Or are they opportunistic ? Just curious

Well if your so curious you could just knock on the nest and ask what their purpose is.

I will tell you this... i am not sure if they are basically the same in smarts but i have noticed that wasps round here are actually pretty damn smart.
And can find their way back to a nest from afar even if they have been transported away.
Which i dont know about you i find remarkable.

even my chickens know not to play with hornets . those things are evil .
I had a young rooster chasing a hummingbird today , I guess it looked like a snack

ARC Thanks again..
I mowed the lawn again this afternoon on my tractor and made sure to keep my distance.
The nest is over 300 feet away from the house so there is no need to do anything stupid and the ER is too long of a drive.
Your Hells Piñata reply is outstanding

Yes the chickens are always pecking and glad to read they don’t want to have a hornet in their mouth.
Must have been a nice surprise to see the chicken chase the hummingbird also

Yeah stay away. I got stung on back of the head while I was on a stand up fertilizer spreader. It felt like a nail gun to the head. It was just one. I couldn’t imagine anymore attacking. Made my vision blurry
