Kettle Scrap??

Dug this while river hunting. The area has lots of mid 1700's history. I'm thinking it could be kettle scrap especially since it has an obvious cut mark on it. Any Opinions?

I seem to see rust? If it is copper or brass i would say it was kettle metal. Hard to tell from the pic.

I second Glenn's comment. If it's copper/brass and from the area where you found all that great trade stuff, I'd say it's a safe bet.

Thanks guys. It's definitely copper/brass. The location has lots of mid 1700's activity. I've dug lots of good stuff there in the past. Been searching for another good site. Hopefully I'm into something.
