Got out on Monday with L4S, his Father In Law, Mr. Senior, and PTD. Spent about 6 hours detecting and found this beauty!

Also managed a Roosie, and 4 other Mercs. I've had a splitting headache for the last two days so I'll try to do a full post w/pics later this week. Wish I had my video camera with me cause I just about --deleted-- my pants. :(

Huge Congrats! :icon_thumright: Happy to see that one come up for you and definitely a banner find!

Congratulations Dan on finding that beauty.
Did you happen to get it on video?

Super sweet!

Didn't look yet, did you get over on the Today's Finds board for consideration?

Super congrats on a BANNER find!

Thanks for the comments guys. I didn't have my video camera with me so no footage of it. P2C can answer your question regarding banner, Tim.

I knew one of these days either you or Jon would find one.

I think 6 or 7 1916 Mercs have come out of this site so far. Glad the one you got was the "good one"
Congrats! :icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft: YaY!

Jason,
I'll do one better. I have a Dealer Greysheet from Aug 12, 2011. The Bid/Ask is Bid = the average maximum dealers will buy coin for (usually from other dealers); Ask = the minimum average dealers ask. Unfortunately it only gives Mint States, but can compare with my 2009 Red book (BTW redbook is only an very rough approximate of value and if its w/i 10% of actual going rate for coin that's Good).

Grade 2009 Red book Greysheet Bid Ask
G4 $1000 N/A
F12 2600
VF20 4200
XF40 6,200
AU 9,200
MS 60 NA 10,600 11,600
MS 63 18,000 13,500 15,000
MS 65 30,000 20,000 22,000 with a Full band Strike $38,500/42,000

The other difficulty in assessing value is even though this coin may have, say XF details, most picky dealers or grading services may note there is some sort of damage or improper toning to the coin, which will lower the said values at a given grade. We'll just have to wait to see how the coin looks and if Dan submits it to PCGS and if it passes their picky eye.

Holy SHIT! That is awesome!!!! Way to go DAN!

All I can say is WOW! killer find man!! She is a beaut!!!

Neil

congrats, must be Karma. You guys did my son and I a favor by taking us to some of your sites a while back and now you find this beauty. Coincidence? well probably. Congrats again, I hope L4S finds it's twin.
