kgc in ca

I'm sure someone will chime in. I know of none but Cole Younger was either in Mexico waiting on British Enfield rifles or in California at the end of the war. Good luck.

does anyone know about jesse and or the kgc in nor cail
Yes. I do. Research the Bullion Bend stagecoach robbery. Then you will know that they were here in my backyard. I also believe I know what their new name became after they "officially" disbanded. The hint: Albert Pike was high up in both organizations. Also has "circle" in the name of both. But their second name was in Greek. Has anybody else come to this same conclusion?

There is a hotel in Nevada City that has an old registry and among the names in it you will find Jesse James' name. This registry is well protected under a glass case so you will have to get permission.
as for the KGC in Northern California, my research found they operated in Yuba, Plumas, Sierra, and Nevada counties.
Gibsonville, La Porte - Plumas County
Rough and Ready, Nevada City, Grass Valley - Nevada County
Marysville - Yuba County
KGC had headquarters at McGinnis' hotel on Washington Street in Columbia - Tuolumne County

It has been rumored that a large KGC Depository lies somewhere behind Nevada City. With the many years searching the area a likely spot is at Edwards Crossing on the South Yuba River. Why this spot? I prospected that area many many times and on one occasion I was running some material thru my sluice box when I heard a noise behind me. thinking it might be a large cat or something else I turned to grab my gun and that was when I saw this very faint red hand print on the rock face. At that time I knew what that was. I had no equipment nor other resources to continue looking, but I did make a very good mental note of where I was on the river. My research came up with a picture of what the crossing looked like back during that time, and who was living there. A William Edwards moved to the crossing in 1867 and operated a toll road/bridge. With everything else that went on in this area - mining - it was the perfect place to put their/KGC gold. with it being close to the river I believe the site to be rigged with water traps.
now for the site location. It lies between Illinois Crossing and Humbug Creek on the North side of the Yuba. Granted a lot has changed (2015) since I was out there I am sure it is still there. Get you a good TOPO or stop by the USFS office in Nevada City.

I have another little tidbit on the James Family.
Rev. Robert James died in Rough and Ready in August 1850 shortly after his arrival in California. He is supposed to be buried next to a W. H. Maxwell, both from Clay County, Missouri. I was unable to locate this cemetery to verify this info.

Yuba Light Infantry Co. E 1st Battalion 4th Brigade N.G.C.
Organized Nov. 7, 1863 - 80 members
The company was the outgrowth of a Union League Club organized to counteract an organization of the Knights of the Golden Circle - said to exist at the time in the county.

If my memory serves, members of the James family spent a fair amount of time in Paso Robles, CA, which I also believe was alleged to be a KGC outpost of sorts. I can't provide sources to verify this, but maybe some other KGC experts can.

check out the website Chronicling America. this is a site I check for newspapers. All my other sources was boots on the ground for 8 years of research. check the web for Yuba County Library website and Nevada County Library. they can help you with some info on the KGC. you can also just type KGC or Knights of the Golden Circle on the internet and look there. try and find a copy of "Shadow of the Sentinel" by Warren Getler and Bob Brewer. hope this helps.
