Had two great days of detecting (one full day and a couple hours the next day)...Met "Skunemonk" (Jeff) who invited me to an old site of his that happens to be near the old horse track where I detect anyway. We detected the whole day. It was the first time we met after connecting by phone. Very friendly guy and it was great. I found these two mercs, yes, heart stopped on the 1916 and I paused for a moment before turning it over...unfortunately, no D. Still a good jolt. The other one that is beat up (1930 I think) was just under some dead grass on top of the ground in a field. I believe it was plowed or the victim of years of fertilizer, or both. Finally, we went over to the old track nearby and I found the 1902 barber dime and (amazingly) the KG II (I think that's what it is) in very bad shape and only about 2-3 inches deep - nothing visible on back -- it gave a mid range tone, not copper. Does anyone know if that means it's counterfeit? This was not a colonial site, but a colonial area and this old coin was there at the race track (1908-1927) for all those years beforehand, just by chance. Now, the biggie...this really nice 1766 KG II found the following day at one of my regular sites. Never found this one with the big date, nice and easy to read -- i did ding the top a bit. Thanks to Earthworks for all the cleaning and photos. Thanks to Skunemonk for the invitation. Bergie -- face in KG III looks like Alfred Hitchcock :-)
