Had two great days of detecting (one full day and a couple hours the next day)...Met "Skunemonk" (Jeff) who invited me to an old site of his that happens to be near the old horse track where I detect anyway. We detected the whole day. It was the first time we met after connecting by phone. Very friendly guy and it was great. I found these two mercs, yes, heart stopped on the 1916 and I paused for a moment before turning it over...unfortunately, no D. Still a good jolt. The other one that is beat up (1930 I think) was just under some dead grass on top of the ground in a field. I believe it was plowed or the victim of years of fertilizer, or both. Finally, we went over to the old track nearby and I found the 1902 barber dime and (amazingly) the KG II (I think that's what it is) in very bad shape and only about 2-3 inches deep - nothing visible on back -- it gave a mid range tone, not copper. Does anyone know if that means it's counterfeit? This was not a colonial site, but a colonial area and this old coin was there at the race track (1908-1927) for all those years beforehand, just by chance. Now, the biggie...this really nice 1766 KG II found the following day at one of my regular sites. Never found this one with the big date, nice and easy to read -- i did ding the top a bit. Thanks to Earthworks for all the cleaning and photos. Thanks to Skunemonk for the invitation. Bergie -- face in KG III looks like Alfred Hitchcock :-)

man that is sweeeeeeet! ;D you are on a roll!

Excellent! That 16 is almost new looking; just imagine the thrill of finding a D on it.

I tell ya what, Bergie, YOU are having a fantastic year so far!!! :o Awesome finds!!

Congrats! Nana :)

I'll bet your heart was beating when you popped out that 1916! Great finds!

Nice finds Bergie. Your year is off to a superb start. The reverse of that Hibernia looks great. I agree that the other copper looks like a K G. How many large coppers is that this year? You certainly seem to be on a roll.

Nice work, Buddy! Man oh Man if you had turned that coin over and it was a Denver mintmark that would've been a find of a lifetime--in that condition! It's still a great coin--a real eyepopper--and probably worth a nice little amount. That's a great few hunts. The crew and I have found Seated coins and three 1700's Spanish Silvers...but only one old copper (a 2 Cent Piece)--and NO Large Cents yet in 2008. I'm not complaining though! It's nice to have found more 1700's silvers than wheats for a change :D Send some of that Copper Love down this way!

Regards,

Nice find's Bergie....I wish I had more place's to look for the old copper's.Starting to peak the interest a little. You've got some good ground for sure....Congrat's!!

Nice finds Bergi. The nasty looking merk looks like it has what we used to call "lime disease" years ago farmers used lime on their fields. I have also found silver coins in yards where they had dumped the plaster torn from old walls into the yard and they looked just like your dime.Keep on diggin.
