Had a great day yesterday...first, it was nice out to begin with...I found a site on the way to site where I was going...stopped by woods by the road where I saw stone building ruins as I drove...found lots of old bottles, and an old glass ink well cracked everywhere but totally intact...no luck with detecting though and I was getting ticks on me, so I continued up to the old 1700s farmhouse where I had gotten permission, but hadn't been yet. I'm there not 10 minutes and my first dig, bingo!...Large Cent at about 5" -- no date off it yet, but Earthworks has it in some olive oil so we will see. You can see some details in the photo...a while later, right on the front strip of law in front of the house at just 3 inches in the plug no less, -- King G, baby! The kind with the harp on the back and the large date. Can see the 17 then the harp splits the date and looks like 75 or 76. Hopefully some olive oil brings that out,,,I also found an old bullet that looks similar to a musket ball but with a flat base, but it's not fired, it's made that way. I stayed as late as possible but still lots of ground to cover there...here are the photos. Thanks to Earthworks for the time to photograph them. I also went to his house and used his laptop on the way back from detecting, then he calls me later and says a damn tick is crawling across his laptop keyboard...watch out for those little nasty bastrds...Earthworks, photo that ink well so I can post it, thanks. Oh and shoul out to Skunemonk, who was on the way to meet me but got sick and couldn't make it...he really felt sick when I told him about the coins...next time, dude!
