Another weekend for the 3 detectateers. We went back to the bountifull field that has been treating us well for quite a while now. We detected for many hours when I finally got something that wasn't can slaw or a piece of colonial era trash. King Geo. 3rd coppa. I would have to say that I have been on a roll and a half. A shot musketball and a tomback button rounded out my Saturday hunt. 16 coppers for the year for me.

I took a flashlight to the side to bring out detail and it is definitely a King George III. The womans left arm is up at and holding onto the staff. Also I can see detail after I tumbled it for 10 minutes. 1770's probably.

Nice find! In my opinion it may be a William III copper, it is hard to tell though as there are many variants in the reverses during the years in which they were minted. I was going by the position of the staff in relation to the position of the shield. Still cool either way.

Steve

Agree more likely William III or William & Mary.

Try to match up the lettering, much different than a Georgie. But older too. :icon_pirat:

A 300 year old copper opposed to a 200+ would be terrible wouldn't it? :tongue3:

IP,

Ya say, eh? :) We were thinking the same, but it is hard to tell. :)

Kirk

The bust side is very hard to tell but the Britainnia I think is much closer to late 1600s/early 1700s halfpennies.
