Today I went out for 2 hours in an old spot of my town and found some random doodads and what I believe is a King William III Half Penny (correct me if I'm wrong). I can make out the word TERTIVS on the right side, so I'm guessing that's what it is. The backside is toasted, but the front is pretty decent. Unfortunately, I tried cleaning off the crud with a toothpick as I had done with a King George II Half Penny I got last month (which worked very well), but this time it actually started taking off detail on the coin, so I stopped that. Are the William IIIs and the KGs made of different materials? I guess it's just a learning process. :icon_scratch:

No idea what these copper/brass items are:

I would agree with your ID. Nice find

Were those two pieces close to each other? Parts from a knife maybe?

Nice find! Those don't show up too often. I found one last year in decent shape. Counterfeits were common with British copper currency so the fake ones are often more roached than genuine ones. You need someone like T-Net member Iron Patch to weigh in on whether its genuine or counter. My though is its genuine and beautiful.

Congrats

Steve

HEY DUST THATS NICE COIN FIND YOU HAVE THERE ....

Well done on getting the oldie, it's great to have history like that close to the back steps so to speak.

Looks real enough to me. I'm not aware of many counterfiet Will III, the odds are very low.

I thought the same thing, if it were larger I would have said sword fitments for the scabbard.

That was my thought about early British coppers including W3's but I wasn't sure. A while ago I read about counterfeits and I recall it was most prolific with KG 2 and 3's. I know we have a ton of counters on our side of the pond since I have about 10 and read of countless others on t-net.

Nice hit on the KG. The object to the right is part of a scythe handle. I have found a bunch of them.

Google "scythe nib block"

Yes your odds are much higher & the most will be Geo III.
