That's actually a pretty good way to get people out of your face. Tell them something so wild and bazaar, that they'll raise their eyebrows and say, o-kaaaay... under their breath and they'll slide away.
I used to do this when I worked in a production machine shop once. Guys would come up to be to gab and if I was busy trying to get a job finished, I wouldn't want them around, so I'd ask them some weird question, "What color does red do?" or repeat some bizarre Adam Sandler stuff from his comedy albums.
I will say that I find that being rude to kids either has no effect or it will work the opposite and they'll pester you even more.
