Knee replacement

I am going to get a new knee early Feb. How have you who have had it done recovered? I don`t know what to expect! Let me know your experience with it. I have heard that most wish they would have done it sooner.

My dads friend had one and he had a rough time. Mainly cause he tried to get out doing too much too soon, and re injured himself. Take time to let it heal. Rest and do as the Dr suggests. Good luck!

My father had one knee replaced at 80 years old. He was a home builder for 30+ years. He’s 83 now, no stopping him!
Weeks of physical therapy after the procedure.

Just get a bionic knee so you can control the pain...but seriously, Good Luck

I only know one out of about fifty that had a bad experience. I know one guy that wore out the replacement in six years and went in for another. He is doing great.

I feel for you GPS53.I had five total knee replacements back in the '80s and '90s (doing more than I was supposed to).I've had to slow down but I still do most of what I did before.One thing to remember is do ALL of the exercises required and instructed to do,even if it is painfull. Walk when you can and execise,exercise,exercise the knee.It should get back to normal in about three months or so.Your DR will advise you on what not to do whith having an artificial knee joint.
As far as detecting goes,use your good knee to kneel.What I did was purchase the gell filled knee pads so I could use at least one knee on the ground.

The wife had it done just before last Thanksgiving. She's had some pain, but not terribly bad; no need for painkillers. The doctor says she's healing just fine and coming along just fine. She was going to return to work with restrictions next week, but she's going to put that off for one more week. A head's up, she said at first the therapy was worse than the operation, but that has gotten better. The people I know who have had trouble with it are the ones who jumped right back in and overdid it, so take it easy at first. Good luck and a quick recovery.

A friend (Gregg) has had two total knee replacements on the same knee in ten years. The first knee replacement was not good as it was too loose and he had a lot of pain and difficulty walking. The Doctor went back in and tried to tighten it up (don't know how that could be done) but it got worse and worse. Gregg found the best Knee Replacement Doctor he could find within 100 miles (Dr. Ivey in Knoxville, the younger one) and had the knee replaced again. He went through all the physical therapy required but opted for more. Due to the great job the Doctor did on the knee replacement, Gregg has much more mobility and now is able to get out and walk quite a distance each day. However, Gregg sometimes comes down with a case of Heart Dropsy and too often sits down and doesn't have the heart to get up. Not trying to make light of an actual ailment but my' Mom used to say that for us when we got lazy!

GP, here's wishing you the best on your upcoming knee replacement. I can't comment on knee replacements, but I have had two total hip replacements. I'm about to turn 63 and I get around great. I just don't run anymore, but I'm turning 63. Lol I had my first hip replaced at age 40, and my second one 5 years later at age 45. The secret is to have a good surgeon and then to rehab and do as the Dr's say. Don't get too impatient and try to snap back too soon. With the help of the Good Lord, you'll do just find.
