LAND of the SLEEPING GIANT

[Northern Lights]

I hunted this area on a visit late summer and did quite well at the local beaches. The water level is much lower now but I did hunt 85% of the area. We are presently in a holding pattern here for a few days till heading south. We are at the extreme west end of Lake Superior, in the land of the Sleeping Giant, a large island formation out in lake Superior about 50 miles off shore from the Lakehead or Thunder Bay.
It is the largest grain elevator port in the world ( 30 huge elevators ) and the western terminus for ocean going vessels which come in to load grain from all over the world. The grain is brought in by rail from the prairie provinces. Old Fort William is a live in working community and tourist attraction. The second beach showing all the swimmers is on Lake Superior about 5 miles from the beach in the aerial photo.

Pictures don't do the giant justice. I was on Isle Royle for 10 days two summers ago and stared at that formation every time I was on a ridge. The size is hard to grasp.
