I paid another visit to the hunt site where I found a 3 ringer Minnie ball 2 dozen Spencer shell casings. I knew it was going to be a good day when I found a cast iron stove door right on the surface of a hillside! :icon_thumright: Rain was in the forecast and threatening.

Next I found a nice key made by Corbin Manufacturing in New Britain, Connecticut and several shot shells on a lower ridge. Heading up the trail towards the foot of a nearby cliff I got a nice strong signal…usually turns out to be bottle top but not this time. Up comes a nice large copper disc from below some roots. Yes! A Large Cent (1837) and my first old coin from this site and second this year! By now the rain was coming down but no matter. I was wet but happy. :hello:

I hunted a bit more as I returned to the car and found a ¾ inch one piece flat button with a “WELLINGTON” button back. A 1938 Wheat Cent was waiting for me at a break in a stone wall along one of the many hiking trails.

Thanks for looking!
Nick

Awesome pics, awesome finds, awesome site!, did you just randomly stumble upon this site in the woods or did you know of a homesite there?
There is no home site that I know of but the woods are a park right at the edge of town so it is bordered by many properties dating back to the 1800s.
Nice array of finds there! The large cent cleaned up real nice!! :icon_thumleft: What method did you use to clean it?
It did, Erik, with lots of detail left. I used hot hydrogen peroxide.

Yes , now that's the way to do it . Just made a comment to provide a pic of all that's found on a hunt , you have it ALL ,

a stunning array of finds esp' the 1837 lc .

Great pics of the entire adventure .

I always like to keep a complete record of all my finds on a hunt. These pics are printed out in a binder that record my hunts in chronological order.
Great finds! Congrats on the LC, and the key is beautiful.
The key is definitely getting a lot of votes today! :laughing7:
Thanks, vpnavy, bountyhuntergirl86, CoinandRelicMan, SaltyShark2002 and Birky! :hello:
