Hello. I'm new here. I found this 7.5' anchor on my property along the Kennebec River in Maine. I'm looking for help identifying it. I've using the Google but I haven't found anything that is very close. It must weigh atleast 350lbs.

Jethro11,

Welcome toTNet from Ohio. That is definitely an awesome find. Any idea on what boat that anchor might have come from. Looking forward to seeing additional finds from you. Again, welcome and good luck with your hunts. Walt

Thank you. I wish I knew. I think so it's very old though. There have been ships in the Kennebec since before Jamestown.

The "grain" suggests forging and very old.
I'm thinking late 1600's thru mid 1700's but that just a guess. I've looked at alot of anchor pictures and I've seen the "grain" in some but I haven't seen one where they split it down the middle to form the loop for the chain or rope.

I love it!

Truth be told...even that big, if I found it out on the wild, I'd find a way to get that back home too.
I live in Maritime Canada and I've seen dozens of old anchors from the days of wooden sailing ships that folks have kept. Many around me were 'found' by getting them snagged in commercial fishing gear. Now they're proudly displayed as yard art...I hope you do the same.
Great save!

about 10 years ago, after a big storm in Maine, I dug a big anchor and a 8 foot heavy chain out of the ground, I was dragging it out off the beach and left it there, it was heavy, I went back the next day and it was gone, and I dragged it into the dunes, always wonder who got it, yours is very nice , I like it
