large mouth body of water, where the Rio Grande River feeds into the ocean. This is the river that separates the US from Mexico.

The first pic is the type of area we hunt...looks like a desert kind of, and trust me if feels like one too. The second pic is that of the river as you can see its not that wide. The third pic is my finds...please don't laugh as you saw from the first pic I have so little to work with. The last pic is a what is it coin in the middle it is slightly larger than a quarter. I will post pics after I clean it, until then y'all have fun guessing, its really corroded.

The only thing I found of any value today was just being out for any length of time and talking with Robert, he knows the area really well and the history of it. He likes to bottle hunt and we found several old old broken >:( bottles today as well.

Finding anything in those condition is amazing in itself.
Nice hunt.
I guess a Sac dollar. I know I'm early, but.............

Nothing wrong with that. Looking foward to see what type of coin it is.

Looks like some good finds to me. I'd love to see a closer picture of the mystery coin. Congrats!

I'll be looking forward to seeing a zoom-in of the coins. They sure look old!

Mexico minted an awful lot of silver. In the old stories on the White's website, some guy found a cache of Mexican .925 silver (20 Peso coins, maybe? I forget), and the cache was worth plenty.
Maybe it's an 1863 1/2-Reale ($25 in VF cond.).

Texas has plenty of history, but I've heard your detecting laws are tough--especially in places like S. Padre Island, where there are shipwrecks. I hope you're able to hunt w/o much hassle, and good luck!

p.s. Check on big iron, too. Collectors pay for even rusted-up six-shooters. There was a Texas-mfd. Confederate copy of a Colt revolver on Antiques Roadshow, a total relic, half-flat on one side, and it was so rare it was worth a ton of money. Leave the engine blocks, though.

Well its not an US coin and I doubt I will be able to get good pics once I finish cleaning but I can now ID the coin it is a 1945 mexican copper coin. Here is what one looks like when its not all junked up

Can they make this river wider & deeper? :o ;D
Congrats on the finds TX. I was going to guess a ChuckE Cheese token, but I see it's not.
Thanks for the great photos.

It's in good shape, and a definite keeper! Bronze, 0.25 in VF cond.

Are you able to locate any old sites that aren't State Historic Sites, like ghost towns & stagecoach stops?
Texas was 'coming on-line' about the same time Michigan was, 1800-1830's, even if the War wasn't fought until 1845.
And as far as buried treasure stories go, you're probably in the top 10.

You had a great day considering the conditions that you hunted in. Man that area looks pretty tough to hunt. Nice find and I like that Centavos.

There's a lot of history right there where you were at. Those are some pretty nice finds, for some pretty rough country.

Nice finds Girl ! That coin,do ya reckon it was lost by a mexican while out for a swim perhaps :D

Gee,thought maybe you were going to change your avatar to a big smile picture when I saw the title.

The place looks so big a person could hunt there for years.thanks for sharing.

Sounds like a good day, cant wait to see the coin.

k...coin in pic is not actual coin because the one I pulled out even after cleaning is in poor shape the one posted is just to show the kind of coin.
BUT how I wish it would of cleaned up that nice!

No most spots are land marks or they turn it into a federal game reserve. We hunt this area often and have found civil war bullets, buttons, misc relics from the time frame. The land changes so much with rains, storms, hurricanes and nature that one week we can hunt it and nada, the next week we find the cool stuff.
I think Texas ranks #1 in buried treasure tales, we are notorious for telling whoppers. I do believe we have a lot of treasure here but its like no matter what town you go to you hear the same story about Santa Ana and the lost payloads. So who knows for sure where it really is. Its still a blast to hunt for it.
