So I inherited this plaque. It's about two feet wide. It's really really heavy. I was told what it was, which was wrong, but I'll withhold that for the moment as not to pollute thought.

I should mention that the weird spots on the face of the plaque are from the egg crate foam box that it was sitting in since the mid-1970's.

Anyone have any ideas?

It might to be tough to ID this one without any back story. Look's like a one of a kind plaque made for someones memorial. With the guy laying in the grass looking like he's daydreaming, I wonder if this is a writer, an inventor?

Did you already ask another website if it was Abraham Lincoln? Because when I Googled it, I found a website where someone was asking whether it was Abe.

My 8th grade math teacher ? It's a very nice casting . There are no foundry company marks on it anywhere?

Ding Ding. This was actually what we were told. I had a pleasant conversation with one of Charles Lindbergh's daughters about this and she assured me that it was not of her father.

We're connected with a number of political experts, and all of them agree that it's not Abraham Lincoln.

There's nothing on it that we know of other than that large H70, as indicated by the second photo.

Regardless you didn't answer my question, so I'll share the link anyway. Either you asked, or someone else who also owns this plaque did

Sorry, I didn't see your question. Yes, I asked Don over at the Railsplitter about the plaque way back in July 2013. Nobody has responded to that yet. Such is the way of things.

Could you confirm the size, as the Railsplitter site had this listed as 3-ft wide, but here you said 2-ft wide. It may not make a difference, but perhaps there's a difference in the venue where the different sizes would be used?
Also, does the back have any means for attachment? Or anything at all noteworthy? -it's a tough one, so every little bit of info may help.

I just dug the plaque out from under my desk.

It measures 18.25" wide by 13" tall and it is thirty eight pounds (38). The edge is about half an inch thick. On the back, there is a small thread hole in each corner that does not go all the way through. Clearly this was to be mounted on something, not just hung on a wall.

Anyone know if there is anything in literature referring to Abraham Lincoln laying in a field of grass, day dreaming, beneath a towering mountain peak? Doubt there are any mountains like that east of the Rockies. I checked photos of J. D. Salinger, author of "Catcher in the Rye," agains the plaque and there really is no similarity either. Great mystery! Sub 8-)
