So I inherited this plaque. It's about two feet wide. It's really really heavy. I was told what it was, which was wrong, but I'll withhold that for the moment as not to pollute thought.

I should mention that the weird spots on the face of the plaque are from the egg crate foam box that it was sitting in since the mid-1970's.

Anyone have any ideas?

Yep; understand. Hopefully someone there will be able to identify if it is so, or not.

I do know that local historic signs/plaques are often changed to reflect on the times i.e. "modernize" them. This could have been a plaque that identified with a locale, and the ones in charge could have changed signs, then auctioned this off, sold it, gifted or someone brought it home/shop etc., way back when. Good luck!

Stroud's face is completely different - nose shape, ear placement, brow line.

The issue with Audubon is there doesn't seem to be any photographs of him. All the paintings have him with long hair. However, the man laying down on the plaque looking at the bird would lend itself to that story, I emailed John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove.

von Richthofen... That would be interesting, and completely within the realm of normal for this collection. I'm a member of two forums that are dedicated to military history, so I asked in each of them for their opinion. I also emailed the curator of Frontiers of Flight Museum
