So I inherited this plaque. It's about two feet wide. It's really really heavy. I was told what it was, which was wrong, but I'll withhold that for the moment as not to pollute thought.

I should mention that the weird spots on the face of the plaque are from the egg crate foam box that it was sitting in since the mid-1970's.

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm coming up with Kilchoan? ? ?
Kilchoan Scotland?

The mountain on the plaque looks like the mountain in some pics of Kilchoan area.
If you search The Kilchoan Diary, it mentions something of a plane crash.
I didn't click the link though, so no clue who the man may be. :dontknow:

Not sure if that may help, hope it does, and good luck.
Cool plaque. 8-)

Reminds me of a young Abe Lincoln.

I thought about a young Walt Disney, but apparently he didn't wear bow ties very often.

if someone is going to take the time to sculpt and cast this, there should be a signature
I think your not giving us all the info needed to ID
IMO
Brady

Should I be offended?

I gave you a photo of the front, a photo of the back, a closeup of the signature, told you there was nothing else. Do you want to see the four sides and that there's nothing in them?

Don't take it too hard, none of his posts have much value in my view, and are all too often rather pointed like that.
I appreciate the picture of the back and measurements.

DCMatt, where is the water?

planecrash1.webpkilchoanpic.webp

I put them side by side, on the plaque, it seems those big things in the sky are clouds, to me anyway, and also a bird flying. The scene is below appears to be the crash in the foreground on land, separated by water, then the mountain in the background.
Here's where I got this info from. It also notes pilots, from two different crashes. Flight Lieutenant Arthur Woodgate, and Warrant Officer Stephen.
Perhaps a single pilot flight crash. I can't be sure, just seem the pic's fit.

Another resource would be contacting the Nat'l Aviation Museum, perhaps a curator would be more knowledgeable.
Good luck in the quest for answers.

The face on the plaque is very familiar to me. However, I can't recall why, and or who he is. So I sent a picture of the plaque to my brother who is brilliant with a memory like Sheldon
on the big bang theory! Lets see what he comes up with. I know I know that face!

Water? It didn't occur to me that it might be water in the scene. I thought that was the rolling plain leading up to the mountain in the distance.

You know, I've also been wondering about this. The man laying down could be in water, not grass. Not that this helps identify it, but who knows.

The plane and the man is not in the water, he has crashed into what appears to be, long tall grass, in the forground.
His "laying down", may be where he fell/was thrown or was able to get out of plane, layed down, (almost on what appears to be a rock), and possibly died.
Behind him, the rolling, was what I considered to be the water (as in the pic I posted), with the mountain on the other shore across/behind the water.

The pics were side by side, when I posted them I thought, could just be my browser, size, idk......
I'm rarely right about these things, just throwing something out there.
Hopefully mjaks' brother will get back with good info on it. Interesting puzzle.
I thought the face looked a little like Mr. Rogers. lol.

Okay, I'm a ninny.
What you all see as a man laying down, I seen as a crashed plane, omg. lol.
I had to enlarge the op's original pic to get this, I feel stupid. lol. nothing new, lol.

It's Richard Bach of Jonathon Livingston Seagull, who was in a plane crash out in Wash state. He's laying down staring up at his seagull. lol.
Now, you all really know, I don't know what I am talking about, LOL.

May not be able to recognize the outside of the man, but the inside is readily apparent.
The lofty mt. and bulbous clouds form the background ... this represents SKY.

The three items in the foreground triangulate to identify the heart and soul of someone.

No matter in formal public or solitary private moments ... this person would always be counted on to be contemplating ... Flight.

In searching plaques, I come up with a name Hubbard, also Bradley and Hubbard.
They made cast iron plaques, and some I saw were actually summer fireplace screens.
Most of those measured 30.5 x 30.5. Had to look back for measurements, this one being smaller, perhaps a coal burning fire place summer cover.
Figured at least, that Hubbard may tie into the H70. I tried. :dontknow:

For everyone, I truly appreciate the effort.

Might anyone know the correct way to clean this plaque? I'd really, really, love to get rid of those marks from the egg crate foam.

Well, we're still pretty much shooting in the dark on this one...

It could just as easily be a random person as a famous one - like this tribute plaque at a golf course:
