So I inherited this plaque. It's about two feet wide. It's really really heavy. I was told what it was, which was wrong, but I'll withhold that for the moment as not to pollute thought.

I should mention that the weird spots on the face of the plaque are from the egg crate foam box that it was sitting in since the mid-1970's.

Anyone have any ideas?

Nose is wrong.

I agree. After quite a while of searching, I couldn't find a true profile of Wilbur. The ear in the plaque is different as well.

Next. At least I didn't have to get turned down by his daughter, too.

LOL, ... yep.

Who were the Wright Brothers ?
Wilbur and Orville Wright, right ?

Actually, there were 5.
Reuchlin Lorin Otis

Who were the Wright Sisters ?
?

Ida and Katharine Wright.
Ida and Otis were born twins ... Ida died in infancy.

Things that came up while looking for Wilbur's profile. :icon_study:

lol. daughter :D

Seriously though. To my ridiculously untrained eye, the ear shape and position looks good, as does the cheek and the bump behind the chin.

Here I go again...

At least he's still with us. He's also active on social media! He lust posted to twitter and facebook last night. I sent him an email through his website. Since he was on twitter last night, I sent him a message on twitter to. I registered on twitter six years ago, and that was my first tweet.

colorful metaphor.

Chuck Yeager himself, or whoever works his twitter account, says it's not him.

So did the person who runs chuckyeager.com.

Perhaps it is just a grave monument plaque...a particular relative?

Not surprised. Frankly, I never saw Yeager as a 'bow tie' kinda guy.

But it was the closest match I've seen yet.

Remind me again why we think it's aviation related? Because someone long ago (who didn't know who it is either) said so? So they could sell it? Hmmm...

It seems like there's a large birdlike object in the sky and then there's the man laying down looking skyward.

Plus, there's really nothing else to work with.

Or he's napping and the drifting bird and clouds and mountains represent serenity...

I've looked at poets and authors and scientists as well. I keep thinking the date is a clue but clearly the guy pictured isn't from 1970. I've been looking for someone who died or did something special around that time.

But in the end, I'm still shooting in the dark.

Hi Equus! Welcome to the tnet!

Your Attachment 1423493 link didn't work, so I don't know what you're pointing to.

I couldn't find a photo of a right profile of a young Henry Ford, so I did what I do. I contacted the people who would know: The Henry Ford at thehenryford.org.

If I get a response I'll share it.

Thank you for the welcome :hello: I was lurking as always, and this plaque compelled me to finally post. I thought he looked vaguely familiar too, and then started going down the rabbit trail of inventors ("dreamers who become doers"). When the state of Michigan was mentioned, it triggered Henry Ford...not sure if there are any daughters involved to get in contact with though :D !

"...daughters" LOL

How long were you lurking before you finally registered? I lurked for over eight years, just reading and learning, before I registered and asked a question. Now look at me.

Only three years, not as dedicated as you are :D

I did reload the picture- I think you can see it now- I was wondering if they worked off of this one. He grew up on a farm in Michigan and farmed while "dreaming" up ideas.

Heres a photo of his younger years...(hope this works!)

Without discussing it with an expert, I feel that I'd need a profile picture for comparison.

Thanks for registering for me :)
