Last find at site I'm trying to date

When I'm trying to date a site, I will dig some iron to see if it is something that may be tool used during a certain time period. Out of all the iron crap, this one seems to be complete and may be something used during a time frame that can be determined. If not, I dug a lot of Crape for nothing. :D

Thanks for any help you can give.

Daryl

if i am not mistaken that looks like an old Hoof knife for cleaning horses hooves.

pick at one point and the curved end would cut away the dead hoof befor you get to the frog of the foot.

looks like it to me
but i havent seen one shaped like this..
my guess is still hoof knife.
the part with the hook may have been inside the wooden handle to keep it from pulling loose when cutting on the hoof.

if it is a hoof knife looks old to me. 100 years plus

If it is a hoof cleaner, would the point be sharp and/or narrow? The point is pretty thick and although the whole thing does narrow (14mm to 4mm) toward the tip, it is still thick and the point is blunt and 3-4mm square.

Thanks for the help.

i believe the point would have been in the handle to keep it from slipping out.
you have to pull pretty hard to cut a horses hoof.
does the curved end look like it was sharp at on time also the 1 ot 2 inches below the curved und the loop part.

Never sharpened. Blunt and 3-4mm square. Not broken. Not curved.
