Relic Hunting
With cold weather and wind chill indexes in the teens expected today, Doug and I hunted a late 1700s Tennessee homestead yesterday while the afternoon temperature was 61 degrees. Even then, the ground had not completely thawed from the unseasonable cold last week. Our finds from yesterday’s hunt are shown on the blue towel. The little cuff button that I dug may have a design but I’ll need to soak it for a while yet. Doug had the best find with the brass trigger guard in the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] pic. As you will see in the video, I tried to get Doug to hunt Civil War relics with me today but he declined.
It was 32 deg. this morning when I left home to hunt the Williams Cleaner camp that is still producing relics. When I arrived, the temperature was 27 with a strong NW wind. I dug the relics in the pic. One of the bullets is a .56 cal. Colt Revolving Rifle bullet along with a Merrill carbine. The bullet frozen in the clod looks like a Williams Cleaner. I let it ride in the truck bed on the way home where I have threatened to make Doug ride for aggravating me on many occasions-LOL. No danger of it thawing out on the way home as the temperature had dropped to 23 and Nashville had an 11 deg. Wind chill value when I left the camp.
We are expecting much warmer weather next week so stay tuned as we have some new sites waiting to be checked. HH, Doug & Quindy.
Special Note-Our Congrats to Modern Miner who is featured on the cover of the March Western & Eastern Treasures Magazine.

Looks good Quindy! I enjoyed the video. Glad you all could make it out for a bit!

Quindy....loved the video and I like that trigger guard, bet it went on an early pistol. Did Dman save that washer for me? I'd rather have the trigger guard of course. I see camp "Williams" is still producing....amazing. Hope to get out late next week with you and Dman, get your camera ready because we will dig relics! Boom baby.

Q, Another great video, and nice finds too! MM is looking fetchin' on the cover.

:)

I've been fighting the girls off ever since the issue hit the news stand. OK, that's a tall tail.

Congrats on the CW relics guys. Those William's Cleaner Camp boxes are growing. That site was a great one!
Looking forward to reading your article Q. They are always well written.

P.S. Where can I get attire like Dman wears? Outstanding! :laughing7:

LOVED the Dixie soundtrack! I could listen to that all evening. You guys are always digging up some great keepers and I enjoy seeing what you're finding. :)
Good luck at your upcoming new sites! Can't wait to see what ya find.
Congrata to our super hero MM for making the cover. ;) Ya look good on there.

Thanks Rob (Creskol), Donnie (looking forward to next week), Breezie & Nana-Don't give MM the BIG HEAD as his head is plenty BIG now-LOL, MM (DUG), & Tnmountains (Richard from Chattanooga). HH, Q.

Very well done video (even a Yankee like me liked that soundtrack) lol I loved Doug's answer to hunting in the cold (how come he gets all the cool finds) haaaaaaaa
Now I have to read that magazine article.

Glad you liked the video TH. Doug has been on a roll of late but what comes around, goes around. A few years ago, I dug an AVC button, KY Staff Officers button, and a few plates. TRENN JOSH was on a roll with some plates and buttons. Doug said he was digging relics but nothing outstanding. We really began to feel sorry for him. However, he broke the drought in a big way with the CSA buckle in his avatar-LOL. HH, Q.

Love these Middle Tennessee Tales.... I have a question. You have a shovel with a Tee-Grip , you have a small piece of rope running thru there ? Are you getting so old that you have to be hoisted up off the ground or what ? What is the rope for ???? LOL

Thanks for stopping by RD66. The rope is a sling to carry the Predator Piranha on my shoulder. To avoid any warranty issues with the shovel, I ran a rope thru the handle and attached it to a key ring on the step. That avoids the need to drill holes that may weaken the shovel. I'm age 64 now and the shovel is helpful in getting up sometimes-LOL. The sling is exceptionally helpful while scouting sites as you have the use of the hand opposite the detector. HH, Q.

Nice hunt and great video as usual! This cold weather needs to scoot on out of here!

Great finds Quindy and another fantastic video. We are still trying to get out. Had to cancel the last two weekends but hope we can make it to our Alabama campsite this Saturday down near Chattanooga.

Couldn't watch the video here at work but I like the relics. Wish I was out digging. Only been out once this year, and that was a during a business trip to Norfolk, VA.

Curve is right Richard & they had iron ones. The only drawback is it looks too thick but I'm not a CW weapons guy. HH, Q.

It's definitely brass - the part I'm holding. I was also thinking maybe part of a spur.
