Latest Mailbox Finds In My 50 States Quest

In the past week I've gotten some new pieces in the mail to help in my quest for artifacts from all 50 states. I now have 39 states and most of the ones I still need are from the northeast. They are proving to be really hard to come by.

The states I have gotten in the past couple weeks are Louisiana, Mississippi, and Kansas, though I can't seem to find the pictures of the Kansas pieces.

This first group of pictures is of the Louisiana pieces. These were sent to me by one of the Arrowheadology members, Palmwood, and he blew me away with what all he sent. He went above and beyond my wildest expectations and I am eternally grateful to him for his kindness. He sent me over 100 Points, Drills, Tools, and Scrapers, including more Paleo than I have even found in 45 years of hunting. Some awesome examples of Louisiana Point types and materials. He sent 4 bags of some of most awesome looking material I have ever seen. Palmwood, Novaculite, Opal, Creek Cobble, etc. Just some awesome pieces. I definitely have a grasp on the Louisiana types, that's for sure. Thank you very much for this Palmwood.

Here's the pics.

1. This is the entire assemblege he sent. I hadn't even went through the two bags yet and I found some nice Scrapers and Flake Tools in them when I went through them

2. The Point and Tools. Some were damaged, but the majority were very nice examples. Especially some of the San Patrice types. Those are just awesome Point types. I ended up with 81 pieces in a nice wooden tray and the rest went into a riker mount.

3. The Paleo assemblege. San Pats, all three types, Daltons, Pelicans, Scotsbluffs, and an Albany Scraper. Very, very cool pieces. We don't find anything like these in my area.

4. The Birdpoints. Some very tiny Points in there.

5. Drills and a Spokeshave. Nice pieces!!

6. The Stemmed Points and the Corner Notch types. The Stemmed types are Garys, Delhis, and Morrils. He didn't actually give me names of the CN types, but I know for sure one of them is an Evans and a very nice one.

7. Some real nice Blades, a nice Scraper made from Novaculite, some Caddo Pottery Shards, and to the left is an Andice from Louisiana and a a killer Stemmed Point from Arkansas.

9. A close up of the large Stemmed Point from Arkansas. This piece is very well made and very thin.

10. The Andice. Even damaged this piece is amazing.

This next group is all Mississippi, except for the nice white Dalton which is from Louisiana.

I got these from a PROS member, Malcolm McLaughlin and from a T-Net member, Jason Kicker.

it almost looks like it is irredescent

Junkyard Dog, the material you are asking about is Petrified Palwood ( the pieces with the stripes in it), some Opalized material ( the 4 big pieces pictured together), and then some smaller pieces of novaculite. The two bags were also full of some killer pieces of material. Some of it was so translucent you could probably read print through it.

I was totally surprised at not only the amount he sent, but the high quality pieces he sent. Those San Patrice, Pelican, and Dalton Points just blew me away when I opened up the package. He definitely outdid himself in both quanity and quality. He's a class act in my book and I've ran into quite a few people like him as I've tried to get all 50 states, including you Joshua. Though not from the USA, you definitely hooked me up with some high quality South American pieces and I am very thankful for that.

I think you're setting your sites too low...you should collect artifacts from all of North America...I can set you up with some Nova Scotia pieces...

I've tried for years to do a North & South America collection, and getting all of the provinces and territories of Canada is mission impossible. Nunavut, New Foundland & Labrador, Northwest Territories and Yukon my gaps. I've got PEI, New Bruswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Ontario as personal finds. BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba as gifts or purchases.
