lead bullet help

Hi, I know nothing of these other than this is my first lead bullet dig.

I knew right away what I had but have no real clue of the calibur or the age. Can anyone shed some light for me?

Looks somewhat modern to me. Would need the diameter to get the caliber. Is it all lead, or does it have a jacket?

Scaling the bullet as best as I could ,it fell into the 9mm-38spl. range.

It appears to be a full metal jacketed bullet indicating either an auto pistol bullet or a revolver round loaded for the military.

The profile closely matches the .38 Special full metal jacketed ammo in my collection. Some of the older .38 Super bullets had a similar profile but your bullet appears to have a channelure indicating more likely a revolver bullet.

The .38 Spl. was introduced in 1902,the .38 Super in 1929.

Of course a handloader could have used that bullet in several different cartridges.

Looks like some .38 Spl FMJ ammo I have. The Air Police that patrol air bases used to be issued .38 revolvers with FMJ ammo.

Wow! Very interesting info.

The bullet is lead, gave me one of those bouncy around iffy signals on my Garrett machine. Lead turns white after many many year so I'm told.
