that's a cool button. Its a fancy colonial period button. It may have had shell or mother of pearl or something in the channel around the center.

The uniform style on your soldier looks like early to mid 1800's. I can't guess on the age. Yours looks old, but they made toy soldiers like that through the 1950's. Neat find!

And then in the '50s, they sold kits so 8 year old kids could melt lead, pour in it a mold to make their own soldiers, and play with them. May explain a few things about some of us.

If MacDonalds got sued for coffee that was too hot, it WASN'T the temperature of MOLTEN LEAD. Wonder how much the companies that made this kit, the chemistry set with REAL chemicals, and the VERY SAFE wood burning tool would last today. A New York minute?

I had one of these when I was a kid:

Ahhh! I love the smell of melted plastic in the morning... That smell. You know, that hot vinyl smell... It smells like Vac-u-form.

The lead soldier could be a BRITIAN and made in England. There were a gazillion lead soldiers made by Britain, Heyde, Mignot, etc. You may find some markings after he is cleaned up a bit. Here is a website with lots of pics:

PS: Don't leave out the EASY BAKE OVENS where the cakes tasted like a cross between cardboard and stale sugar cookies.

It's a wonder we didn't kill ourselves. Why wasn't our government looking out for us back then? :laughing7: I think there needs to ba an investigation.

Not a stab at you vayank54 , but the Guberment is exactly why these kind of toys are gone. Remember when everything you did involved some risk?
Its not the FEDGOD's job to protect us, and I for one wish like hell they would get out of the average Americans Life!

Im afraid we need government protection, but not to protect us from ourselves. The government needs to step up to the bat and stop these frivolous lawsuits. But the lawyers will never allow it.
