Hello All,

I was just wondering if anyone knows of a remedy for leg cramps.

Rick

yup.
potassium (sp?)
You can get it in pill form, called Legatrim,I think.
Or...just eat a bannana every day. That's what worked for me.
Cramps suck :(
Good luck!

Long term:
yes bannana; drink enough liquid, water;

Short term:
If your having a bad attack try standing in your bathtub
no shoes/socks, no water just the cool bottom.
Helps for a bad attack.

have a good un....

Depends. What kind of leg cramps? Hubby had an ongoing leg (calf) cramp and went to the doc. Turned out he had a blockage in the artery. They did a quickie surgery and corrected it. Go to the doc. Now. It's as dangerous as a heart attack. I promise. Go get it tended to. He'd had a heart attack 5 years earlier, it was known there was a history of blockages, and we're lucky he had a great doc and surgeon. -Noodle

get checked by a doctor and if they can't fix it take a daily dose of potassium gluconate to avoid leg cramps. siegfried schlagrule

Banana a day will keep the leg cramps at bay.

This might sound funny, but put a bar of soap at the foot of your bed and it is supposed to help stop leg craps. My mom does it and since she started doing this she hasn't had a problem.

I was told though, never to rub a leg cramp.

If nothing helps and or they get to bad, call your doctor to be checked for a blood clot in the leg.

Electrolyte replacement if it's not blockage related. Potassium/sodium in Gatorade type of drinks is a good short term solution, or if you have a water retention problem (due to sodium) you can get electrolyte enhanced water that is only potassium as an additive from Whole Foods.

Bananas on a regular basis helps a lot.

I'm a quad bypass and the leg they took the vein/artery from is the first leg to experience problems. Bananas and non-sodium electrolyte enhanced water is my solution. I bought potassium supplements from a health store, but they only supply about 3% of the recommended daily consumption (bad purchase on my part).

I think I'm staying marginal with what I'm doing, but I don't have any severe cramping as I did before I started to research the cause. I still get minor cramps, but they're relieved by simple stretching exercises for the cramping muscles. (Couldn't get rid of them without muscle relaxers before.)

Best of luck!

At least keep the aspirin handy. Getting those cramps now and then since I've been off work for 4 weeks. Got three blown disks in the back and they don't keep me down, they keep me up literally. Have not been able to lay down since Halloween. I can stand or sit, that's the options.

That's really tearing up my gluts more than anything though since that's where all the new pressure comes from. If the legs are put up on a stool for most the time sitting, they go bad after awhile. Turning point has come though, pain is almost only limited to laying down, with the exceptional feeling of a broken ankle, hot iron poker on the calf and a knife in the thigh. Sneezed a couple minutes ago and thought I'd popped my leg off but the recovery from that took only minutes this time. Few weeks back and that'd hurt for a day plus.

Back to work tomorrow since if I gotta stand or sit, I might as well be moving those steel coils at work.

Hey, thanks for all of the advice you all. I only have them occasionally at night, after a long day on my feet. Not all the time. I probably do not get enough potassium or drink enough water though.
