Let's mix it up, shall we?

Just got done catching up on everyone's treasure hunting Saturday. You guys are killing it!

I think I had a pretty good day myself. At the sale I selected as the day's starting point, I picked up the following:

$5 for the old Dormeyer mixer. Never heard of the brand and not sure what I might get for it. I paid $10 for the very old Kitchenaid blender. It isn't in great shape but it is very old.

This is a big 325 watt Kitchenaid mixer with all the attachments and manual. I asked the lady about it as soon as I got there. She wanted $200 for it. I sold one very similar to this a few months ago for $250 so there was no way I was going to pay that much. Several other people asked about it as the wife and I were poking around and nobody was interested in laying down that much cash. Just before we left, I pulled out five $20 bills and asked the lady if she would take $100 for it. She wouldn't do that but I did get her down to $125. I should be able to double my money with no problem.

My wife found this 1947 toy box. Nothing in the box unfortunately. Paid $0.50 for it. I think it might bring $30

I paid $2 for the box of 8-track tapes. Almost all of these are Beatles tapes. They aren't in the best shape so it is hard to tell what they might bring but I thought they were definitely worth a $2 chance.

I stopped by a professionally run estate sale Friday morning and then came back to it today. Here is the booty from that sale:

I grabbed this Scovill Hamilton Beach mixer on Friday for $8. It is in almost perfect condition. Might bring as much as $50.

I paid $5 for this cast iron, enameled casserole dish. It is made by Copco in Denmark. Might get $30 for it.

I bought the Jarts for $10. I saw them on Friday and there was no price marked on the box. I was bummed to see the estate sale guy wrote on the box before I came back on Saturday. I tried to get him to take $5 off for messing the box up but he wouldn't budge. Dude should have known better.

The estate was obviously that of a former pilot. I picked up the box of aviation pins for $5. I'm not sure what the 3 MCATA pins are from. I'm guessing some Marine Corps flyer's association. I have no idea what the significance (if any) of the airplane pins is. One of them represents a C-130 transport plane. Not sure about the others

The pin on the bottom right appears to be a Marine Corps aviator's wings. Not sure how old. I don't know if you can make out the markings on the pic below but it appears to be 10K gold filled.

I picked up this old pocket calculator for $1. Not many of these out there to compare to but it might be worth $20 to $30.

Your wings were made by Hilborn Hamburger, they are U.S. Navy Naval Aviator's wings, small sized by the looks of it. M.C.A.T.A. stands for Marine Corps Air Transport Association. Nice finds and I would have snatched those pins up myself.

I have been to estate sales where the people put price stickers right on paintings, no not the frame, but the painting itself. And yes I hate it when they write directly on the box of collectibles. I do well selling board games and it really gets me mad but I can't correct them or they might get a heads up on how valuable some board games really are.

I remember those steering wheel toys. The horn would beep also. I recall a story were a kid got a jart pierced through the top of his scull. Those things were deemed as very lethal and sales fell off.

Thanks for the info on the pins, dig. I presume the MCATA pins were from an annual convention. Any idea when the aviator's wings were issued? If have seen several wings similar to these sell on eBay in the $50 - $100 range but it looks like all of those were of WWII vintage. Many of the more expensive ones on eBay also indicated there was sterling silver in the piece as well. My wings look fairly old if the heavy accumulation of green gunk on the back is any indication. Does anybody have any idea if the 4 airplane pins have any significance? Perhaps certification for flying that type of aircraft?

The steering wheel box got F-ed up by the seller, too. You will notice there is a spot of the red coloring missing at the top right corner. That is where the seller put an adhesive price tag. My wife did her best to get that sticker off without pulling up the underlying material but she couldn't do it.

With the 307 mark on them, the wings date to no earlier than Korea or Vietnam. The other pins are probably just representations of aircraft that the guy has flown over the years. Nothing that was issued or awarded. To my untrained eye, they look like Korean war era planes. Not that the pins date to that era, they just depict planes from that era. The C-130 being the best in the lot.

I found a B-24 Liberator pin with "Ford" on it a couple weeks ago.

I made one other purchase this weekend. Sunday morning, my wife and I went back to the estate sale where I got the Jarts. We saw a coffee table there on Saturday that we thought might be an upgrade from our current piece. That piece had been sold but I took one more swing through the house, just to see if I missed anything. On a chair in the corner of the dining room I saw some nondescript fabric pieces folded and stacked. At first I thought they were just pieces of cloth the estate sale folks were using to cover their display tables. I took a closer look anyway and saw one piece with a metal grommet on one corner. "What's this?", thinks I, "A flag perhaps?" I pulled it out, opened it up, and found this:

I'm thinking this was a banner displayed at Bicentennial events back in 1976. It is in almost perfect condition. I bought it for $2. There are a few sold recently on eBay in the $30 - $40 range. If I had a place to display it, I might think about keeping it.

Oh, BTW, that old Kitchenaid appliance with the jar on top is a coffee mill, not a blender. It is marked as such on the base and even had a few old coffee beans in it!
