Lets see all the home made gear

I have grinded down many shovels with a cut off wheel. One thing that make a big difference to me is having a D-handle. Bought the piranha shovel and may weld on a d handle because a t handle stinks.
I also use a lanyard on my pro pointer to my belt.

Wheres my 3d printer when I need it.

HAHAHAHAHAHA turns out they found a rusty nail HAHA

I will take a few pics of my shovel collection tomorrow... tis 8:30 and dark out in the shed... will have to dig around for a couple others I really have enjoyed and recommend.
Cool thread.
keep up the posts.
Love seeing "the wheels turning" out there.

I am not familiar with the ace... but what about battery compartments ? changing batteries etc?

us the headphones port. The at pro uses double prongs on most of heirs with waterproof caps. Plus if it gets damaged the warranty won't hold up. I have seen people on YouTube do great jobs waterproofing them though.

hole where connectors are sealed batts heavy die elec grease on them ,, batteries last close to a year in this machine for me anyhow , speaker is disconected and speaker vent is sealed closed , the bat lid is fairly tight and already seals up good with help

looks like the Garrett Ace 250 etc...

I owned a Garrett once... GTI 2500... with 2 coils... was a sweet machine... but had a few quirks.
I have to say it was one of the best detectors as far as depth and hits.
I never hear of anyone using one though... here anyway.
The quirks were that the buttons would "stick" the rubber would get dirt/sand particles in the nooks and keep the button in a depressed position. which of course screws ya up because depending on which buton it was it would make a sound or not make a sound ... but would stick "in mode" so you are waving a dead coil around for a few mins till you figure it out.
Sold it BUT... kinda wished I had not.
That detector when set right... can be put up as top 3 coin shooter I ever ran. and deep as hell with larger coil.
I permit hunted Fort Desoto Park years and years ago in an area that had been beaten to death... I mean picked clean and nothing but trash... I set it (after 5 damn minutes) (oh its sorta complicated scroll to learn) and I could not move a few feet without nailing a coin... and man oh man...
That machine was PURE QUARTER KILLER ! heh
My back was sore from cracking rock hard dry compacted sandirt so deep every time.
You guys up north should snag one of these machines if ya get a chance for cheap... love to see what it would do in a civil war or colonial site.

Oh about the quarters... several 64's.. lots of 70's... 80 and on... stuff that had been there a long time and missed by other detectors.

A guy I heard about still uses that gti and I think it was a 1500 or something. But I would love to have one from old stories I read.

Here is collection of shovels... and I just got rid of some before last move.[
The one I spoke of with the alum handle will be in with next pic ... will do a pic of my scoops next.
Anyway so I guess I actually own 3 of the "sprinkler shovels".
Notice the "kick" on the back... this is what I was referring to... makes a world of difference in performance.

Nice assortment there

Thanks... the 2 best are the blue ones for "plugs". and between roots etc.
Gonna throw you guys a bone...
Check out post hole diggers... disassemble them ... now you have 2 shovels that work great if you mount my "L" bracket kick trick.

ARRC, that is a great idea, keep that brain working buddy.

This is a homemade plugging tool I made a LOOOOONG time ago, back when 6 inches was about as deep I could ever find a coin. It hasn't been used since I got my Minelab!

A lot of nice ideas so far. . .

I had an extra Lesche Digger so I made an extended wooden handle then added the bicycle grip for comfort.
It works well with the added leverage of a longer handle.
