I've noted before that old pianos, in my experience, hide treasure. I've dismantled three old pianos and found old coins in each one. Last fall, I started a TNet firestorm when I discovered melted gold in the ashes of a burnt piano. Today, I had the opportunity to check out an old player piano; as near as I can tell, it's in the 1906-08 range. Hopefully, I'll be dismantling it in the near future, but for today I gave it a good inspection. Didn't find any coins, but I did find four gum wrappers. I should say four vintage gum wrappers. Three were Teaberry, and one of those was a bit oversized. I thought that was odd, then noticed "Valuable Wrapper" emblazoned on it. In smaller words, it says, "Save see back" I opened it carefully and discovered the deal of a lifetime. Gather twelve of these, fill out the form and send it to Clark in Pittsburgh and they'll send you three 5 cent Clark bars. So far, I haven't been able to put a date on this label; Clark Brothers broke off of D.L.Clark in 1921. Also found a vintage Beeman's. Hopefully, if I'm enlisted to dismantle this instrument, I'll find something round and copper, silver or gold under the keys!

I love it. I used to chew this exact gum growing up, and still make calls to have some sent to me from time to time. Used to pick and chew wild teaberry leaves on hikes.

It's good stuff! I bought a friend a twelve pack on Amazon for her birthday a couple years ago; you can still get it. According to the research I've done, these wrappers are the earliest Teaberry made. The rectangle with "Teaberry" in it is actually a wood level, with wood grain and everything. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our pursuit of metal treasure that we overlook the rest.

Cool find! I found something very similar recently. Kind of a hoard you could say, tho not in a piano, but in the trash.. A depression era Clark's Teaberry gum dealer Certificate that the retailer could save up 10 of them, mail them in & they would mail them one regular 20 package box of Teaberry gum for free or save up 50 certificates & they would send you 6 boxes of Teaberry gum for free, says offer is for retail merchants only.. (It's the one in the bottom right corner of the first picture.)

Along with that I found 120 depression era Wrigley's 5 United Profit Sharing coupons; Wrigley's spearmint gum. 100 of them are in fantastic perfect shape the other 20 look like mice ate part of em. There was also 1 old 1920's-1930's Wrigley's juicy fruit gum wrapper with a single United Profit Sharing coupon printed on the inside of the pack. Last there were 3 dealer notices that say double United Profit Sharing coupons in this box. I filled a whole post card album with all these!

I looked at my Teaberry certificate/coupon a little better & it says only valid till Dec 31st 1925 so it was obviously from 1924 or 1925. Found one on eBay from 1928 in better condition that didn't sell for $9 shipped.. 1928 Premium Certificate Advertising Clark's Teaberry Sweetwood Chewing Gum | eBay

The Wrigley's certificates / coupons are worth between $4-$5 each & I have 100 good ones. But the Wrigley's dealer notices I have yet to find for sale anywhere.

I'm hopeful you get to dismantle that piano & hopefully you find some more treasures in it! This is something new I will be looking to do in the future, thanks for the tip on it! Do you ever have success with old organs or is it just pianos? I know pianos have many more areas to lose things in so pianos make a lot of since! I've had a little success searching under the carpet, in vents, & in tight spots of old early 70's to late 60's cars at junkyards, not so much cars that have been there forever but more so the ones they took in recently.

Pianos are where I've had success; they tend to be much older and anything foolishly placed (or lost) in them stays unless they're worked on in some way.
