I knew it was going to be a good day at the site when the first thing I pulled out of the ground was the silver ring with the honking big garnet! It was about three inches down. It looks art deco but I am not sure how to date it. The second recovery was a mini coin spill consisting of 4 cents, including a 1935 and a silver 1942 dime! The next 9 recoveries were my favorite...lead! Three intact musketballs, four high velocity fired balls, a one ring .577 Snider minie with an iron nose and a strange piece of lead which may or may not have been a musketball. The final recovery was a crotal bell. Very strange for this area as it is all steep, hilly, rocky terain where no animal could have grazed. I was pleased! Thanks for looking!
BTW, the ring fits my pinky finger and my birthstone is garnet so I am going to wear it!
