From the age of 6 (1970) I was extremely interested in US coins, I hunted rolls to fill my Lincoln penny books.. At about 8 I found a Franklin half half sticking out of the packed dirt in a horse stable I then started to dream of a metal detector. We were poor and one after the other Christmas passed without any detector... At 13 I got info before Xmas that a local church was going to help with presents and was almost promised a detector... guess what.. nothing for Xmas at all.. Oh well.. my coin collection was raided by my parents, all silver removed and sold without my knowledge... sob story eh??

Well I moved from the US to Sweden and worked hard to make something of myself despite a life of "you'll never amount to anything" type comments.. I did, I'm not rich, but one day about 3 years ago decided to buy my own frickin' metal detector.. I was then planning on moving to Thailand and had a hard time choosing, but with my background of disappointments I splurged and got what I thought the best of the best a CTX 3030.. After going thru the stupid process of getting government permission to use it in Sweden that is... I got a few spots on the map of my town, none of the ones I really wanted but headed to the beach and found enough coins to pay for the batteries in my pin-pointer and flashlights.. :) Found a little gold charm and a 1700's Swedish coin (in a place I wasn't supposed to search haha) nothing of big value, but I'm very happy to own my very own detector!

I have now moved to Thailand and live about 3 hours from the beach, go now and then and again, get enough to cover batteries... 2-3 times a year and the somewhat steep learning curve of the CTX isn't gonna give me much of a chance to strike it rich.. but as I said, living the dream of actually holding a detector!

A couple misc other things.. bought a Whites "coin getter" at a flea market for pocket change.. I imagine it's something I could have gotten when I was little.. that's also a great feeling.

My Thai wife's brother rents plots near his (and our) home where the pull out several grams a month in small nuggets.. I tried in vain to find anything with the CTX.. it's just the wrong machine.. sucks.. Well now my plan is to travel to Australia and buy a SDC2300 for this purpose. Now poor again so feels a bit crazy to buy this really over priced machine (brand) might have to sell my CTX.. but I'm attached.. :)

I would like to be active here, but I'm pretty scatterbrained and not sure I can deal with it.. and not sure there is enough relevancy due to my location... but I'll Do my best! (encouragement helps :hello2:)

Welcome aboard and happy hunting...

Wel-come aboard ... :hello2:

You will find that your always welcome here. A lot of us have been there and done that, so you will fit right in. Welcome !

Just keep doing what your doing. I just bought my first detector and cant wait to use it. I think it's more about the chase i would think. It's funny how 10 years ago i wanted to get into it, but life kinda kept me away. Hard times or what have you. Really all it is to me is the unknown, the mystery. I'm not in it for the money so much as the history. But if you can locate and find gold, hell why not. Good luck to you. Hope to see some success posts from you.

Welcome to the forum! Take your time and enjoy the fun of metal detecting, all of the finds will come in time.

Good Luck in 2015!

Thanks all
