Found this while bottle digging. It was in with early 20th century finds. It's very light and glass like and it may be just that. I do know its not coal. Maybe graphite? Anyway, y'all are always great at this so thanks in advance. I know it's probably nothing but I'm completely obsessed with ID'ing everything I find if possible. Thanks a bunch in advance. I'm thrilled with the finds I've seen on here lately. I still can't get over the George Washington button "cache". What an amazing day. Question for y'all also. What is the closest state to Texas that would be remotely possible to find one of those beauties? I know nothing is impossible but... thanks and HH guys and gals.

I would respectfully disagree with posts thus far.It may well be a natural piece of obsidean.Very common.the following images show naturally occuring samples.this is my best guess.....

We had coal furnaces in Pittsburgh when I was a kid.
It looks like coal BUT as far as I can remember Anthracite coal may have a luster but I would not call it glasslike.

Who has the large monitor lol?

Can you break off a piece and see if it will burn?

I found a few chunks of old road far that looked like that. It did melt though when I tried to light it to see if it burned. Hard tar also fractures similarly to obsidian.
