I may be going to London this Summer and would like to possibly buy a bottle I could lug home in my suitcase.I don't want to pay a ton for it but I would want a nice representation of an old bottle from there. What type should I look for, black glass? Any particular maker or marks?

If it were I, I would scuba in the Thames and find one of my own

Yeah that would be right up my alley...not!

Coily, not knowing your taste, nor the focus of your collection, you could have a look for some of these guys:

Hamilton: torpedo_small.webp

Maugham: 6a00e54f0014bd8834014e89c93a66970d.webp

Dumpy Seltzer: sds.webp

Boat Inks: BoatInks.gif

Hybrid Codd: CoddScarce.gif

The dumpy seltzer bottles look pretty compact and like nothing I've seen before.Torpedo bottles are cool and of course I don't have any in my collection.Might have to pick up a couple of inks too.Is there any color that is more collectible? Cobalt blue is always a good one I'm sure.

You should write a tour guide ,your info is oh so helpful.:laughing7:

You can walk along the river Thames and pick up relics. I don't know if they will let you dig. I think they call it "mudding." Sir Surf posted a link recently about these relic hunters.

Sent from my iPhone using TreasureNet

Gee, Coily, why concentrate on bottles over there? If I were going over there again, I'd bring my detector and hook up with an English MD club or an English member from here and go detect where one can find thousand year old coins and relics!! Then look for a bottle.

Gunsil, sadly we'll be there for just a few days and then onto a fast paced tour to Paris,Bruges, and Amsterdam .Bass I would love, love, love to see what I could eyeball along the Thames and I wouldn't um... dig but I could wear some pointy shoes and poke at the dirt.Surf that is porn to me,lol!

Have a great trip Coily!! Ive made those rounds. Make sure you see the Rodan Museum in Paris, and in Amsterdam the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and a lesser known one, the Maritime Museum. The nightlife in Amsterdam is fantastic and have fun in the "coffee houses" and there are I think, more bars per block in Amsterdam than any place I've been. Oh yeah, don't forget the Heiniken factory tour!! Belgium has more breweries per capita than any country in the world, and some fantastic beers. They were serving beer in the Brussels train station at 6AM when I was getting a train to Amsterdam!!

When I traveled to Belgium I remember you could get beer at McDonald's!
