When I finished up my work in Yerington, NV, I headed back east to Elko via Nevada Hwy 50 and known as the "Loneliest Road in America" Just Google that and this highway is what comes out on top. I love this road, as it is so peaceful out here, but be sure you have a full tank, water and munchies for along the way. I went though the old mining town of Austin where there's a place called Stoke's Castle, built by some mining fella in the 1890's. It's almost like a spooky Castle up on a hill overlooking a mine and a vast valley below. Some of the stones in that castle look almost as big a Volkswagen beetle. I took a picture of Austin below the big hill you climb east and I had time to stop at an archaeological site called the "Hickison Petroglyphs' and it's flat out in the middle of nowhere. It's all on a mound surrounded by nothing, but vast open spaces. There are some interesting glyphs there and rather unique to so many other found in the west. To me this land is full of mysteries and ancient stories that really can be only ascertained by one's imagination. I can't believe the pony express riders would even dare go across all this vastness all alone in their time, but heck I know they did it all in the name of progress and the building of our great nation that was to be stretching from sea to shinning sea in their minds.

All Fabulous photos as usual!!.....Makes me miss long haul trucking. I loved seeing those sights, but the problem with trucking was the destinations were usually big cities, which I don't care for at all.

Thanks Ron. Yeah I can't imagine driving a big truck in those big cities. Maybe you could just get in a little 4 wheeler and hit the road sometime?. I took a fantastic loop out this way and back this time. I do rent a vehicle to go out this far anymore. Enterprise was suppose to give me an intermediate car, but all they had was a Chevy Suburban and because part of the deal of using a car is the fuel mileage, but they made good on giving me a full tank and only charged a week price of an intermediate. That Suburban had a range of over 700 miles when full and it was nice ride. Heck I could have slept in that thing.

Thanks, tamrock, for the photos and the post. I really like this pic.

That was a neat area where these ancient people called home. Ten thousand years ago there were lakes that filled those valleys below and people who settled in and around those massive lake that have all dried up now.
