Amazing!! What's the story?
Thanks Newnan! I was metal detecting around a small lake and had a very nice high tone in a farmers rock pile. Was completely shocked when I pulled this out. I damaged it a little with my shovel unfortunately trying to get it out. I just thought it was a piece of junk metal. Boy was I ever wrong! Sawtooth tang Copper Culture spear point. This made the banner a few years back. I have since found a few other Copper relics. They are in my profile picture.

In what approximate part of Missouri was it found ?

I primarily hunted central Missouri, from east of St Louis, Il to Kansas City. Many of my better finds came from creeks and streams outside the Cohokia Mounds area about 20 miles east of St Louis.

City occupied from about 1,000 to1350 AD, at the height of the settlement there in 1300s there were 15-20 thousand inhabitants.

I met friends at work in St Louis who owned land there and gave me permission to hunt their land along the creeks and streams near the park.

I did same thing near Van Meter State Park in western Missouri, met the son of farmer whose land backed up to the park, got permission to hunt the land. It was once the location of a Missouri Indians village documented in late 1670s by French trappers over 5,000 occupants at its height.

I got some nice finds there too...
