Looking for info on the "Treasure Hunter XJ9", and ideas for units under 220$.

I have a friend that is dead-set on this detector.

I think it's junk, and that he could do MUCH better within his 220$ price range (No, he will NOT go over 220$, I give him points for setting a hard limit for himself)

I suggested a low model White's, Garrett, Tesoro, or any other "major" brand.

Any comments you have regarding good detectors under 220$ would be helpful too.

I just really don't want him to be let down and throw in the towel due to a substandard unit, we've seen it happen way too often.

thanks

Hi, you may suggest looking at fisher or tesoro both have low priced machines and come with a lifetime warranty. if i had to choose one under $220 id go with the fisher 1212x darn fine machine but thats just me. good luck ;)

I have the XJ9, have only used it a couple of times, but I've found it good & it's gotten me results, 6 coins & a keyring in 1 hour on the beach.

If you want an ID machine look at the Whites Prizm II. It is about $200

I have this detector, I own 8 other detectors in many other price ranges, this is my favorite detector in my collection. I give it 3 thumbs up. Detectorman

Can't go wrong with a Fisher F2. .

It loves coins.

I have the TH XJ9 also. Works pretty good. It's not a famous name brand though.
Don't know where you would get it fixed if it broke. That would be important.
