Hey guys, so I was wondering if I could get some various opinions on a situation I have found myself in.

So I work as a teller at a branch and a older customer whose husband passed away came in today brought in 1500 in large dollar coins. There are 3 bags with 500 in each. Now from what I could see from 2 of the bags that I looked at I could see that they were all Ike's and none looked silver of course you never know.

Now here's the problem the head teller is holding on to them only because she knows I collect silver coins but she will be sending them out by Thursday if I dont take them. So should I take them? I can I only imagine the pain in the butt it would be to get rid of them especially if there is nothing there.

Should I take them to look the for the rarer type 2 varieties or is it not worth it.

Again I appreciate any and all feedback.

Just take them in the back room and search them over your lunch hour.

This is what I used to do, with the approval of my head teller. I'd buy them in a heartbeat - absolute worst case scenario, you can always sell them for face value to another bank...

In my banks rules, it says that any bagged deposit may be opened by a teller for verification at the branch, maybe you could just verify the counts in the bags and get a look. Good luck, maverick.

I've bought 2 bags of $1,000 face. The first held 2 40% Ikes and also a 1923 Peace dollar. The second bag was a skunk. Still haven't found that third variation piece in a condition that is anywhere close to album worthy.

It's amazing to me how many tellers and bankers call regular Ike dollars or Kennedy halves "silver dollars"...yet most of them have no clue what a silver half or full dollar actually looks like...or is worth! Anyways, if you have the discretionary funds available, I would by them all just because of how rare this opportunity is. You might get lucky...you might not. But that is why we do this...for the thrill of the hunt :)
