Looking for SR 71 BLACK BIRD STORY.

I got to do the same thing there pretty dam cool .brad
was at mindenhall afb England couple days 1982,,got close and personal tour by a fellow security police---just before leaving hanger---------seen fuel plane take off 10 min before sr71-----pretty cool at 100 feet away on take off

I can only assume what I was talking to was either an SR-71 or something being tested.

A lot of times, when deployed to Mexico or Central America, when I got bored at night, I would hang out with the Tower at MacDill AFB (on the radio at 8.993). We would BS all night and when they wanted to take breaks, I would take care of their radio checks. I had just done a radio check with "Air Guard 2905" (no idea what kind of plane it was), then I get an RC Request from "Classified". He was 5x5. He said he was at angels 30 (which meant he was at 30,000 feet), about 1-2 seconds later he wanted a new Radio Check from angel's 10 (10,000 feet). No call sign, and dropped 20,000 feet in a couple of seconds. Not sure what kind of aircraft that was. That was during the early to mid 1980s. Stealth was still secret, but being developed (not public till 1988). I just guessed SR-71.

Got to see the Blackbird on her stop at the EAA Airshow. Couldn't get that close because of the leaking JP8. What a dripping mess on the ground! They couldn't do the planned Mach 1 pass due to the slow speeds for the crowd. Too much fuel on the wings that needed to vaporize off before full supersonic flight.

Got close-up pics of the F-117 as well. Peace pukes tried to attack the stealth by throwing ashes at the inlet. After that, nobody closer than 10'.

1968-1970 saw SR-71 almost daily on Kadena AFB Okinawa... Got to develop, score and print pictures taken from SR-71...

One time in the 70's I was flying my Cessna to Reno, NV when the blackbird flew below me near Sacramento,Ca. What a sight to see and what a rush!
